Port of LA Container Volumes Down 22.7% in January
Port of Los Angeles container volumes decreased by 22.7 percent in January compared to January 2014 volumes, the port announced today. The port's January 2015 cargo volumes totaled 529,427 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), compared to 685,549 TEUs in January 2104. Labor strife between the International Longshore Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association, which resulted in port slowdowns and shutdowns, made a decline in container volume inevitable.
Port of LA Container Volumes on the Rise
The Port of Los Angeles has released its September 2014 containerized cargo volumes, showing overall volumes in September 2014 increased 9 percent compared to September 2013. Total cargo for September was 775,133 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), marking the busiest single month at the port since August 2006. According to the port, the increased volume reflects peak season volumes and larger vessels calling at the Port of Los Angeles.

The Port of Los Angeles has released its July 2014 containerized cargo volumes. In July 2014, overall volumes increased 0.25 percent compared to July 2013. Total cargo for July was 717,407.00 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs). Container imports dropped 1.98 percent, from 370,745.55 TEUs in July 2013 to 363,393.50 TEUs in July 2014. Exports rose 3.62 percent, from 157,585.50 TEUs in July 2013 to 163,294.50 TEUs in July 2014.

The Port of Los Angeles has released its June 2014 containerized cargo volumes, revealing overall volumes increased 13.89 percent in June 2014 compared to June 2013. Total cargo for June was 736,438 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), the largest volume in monthly containers since September 2012. Container imports rose 16.55 percent, from 328,324 TEUs in June 2013 to 382,666 TEUs in June 2014. Exports rose 8.51 percent, from 148,203 TEUs in June 2013 to 160,823 TEUs in June 2014.

Total cargo for May was 689,141 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs). Container imports rose 7.75 percent, from 326,114 TEUs in May 2013 to 351,403 TEUs in May 2014. Exports rose 2.3 percent, from 154,904 TEUs in May 2013 to 158,473 TEUs in May 2014.

The Port of Los Angeles has released its February 2013 cargo volumes. Overall volumes increased 16.99% compared to February 2012. The increase was due in part to a surge in imports prior to the closure of factories for the Chinese New Year. Imports jumped 25.23%, from 254,359 Twenty-Foot Equivalent (TEU) containers in February 2012 to 318,547 TEUs this February. Imports decreased 1.07 percent, from 368,842 Twenty-Foot Equivalent (TEU) containers in October 2011 to 364,881 TEUs this October. Exports decreased 7.10 percent, from 193,547 TEUs in October 2011 to 179,810 TEUs in October 2012. Combined, total loaded imports and exports for October decreased 3.15 percent, from 562,390 TEUs last October to 544,692 TEUs in October 2012.
