Emissions Reductions Persist at Port of LA
The Port of Los Angeles continues to make strides in cutting pollution from ships, trucks, trains, cargo-handling equipment and harbor craft, according to the latest annual inventory of emissions from port-related mobile sources. The Port’s 2013 Inventory of Air Emissions shows the Port has set new records with diesel particulate matter (DPM) down 80 percent, nitrogen oxides (NOx) down 57 percent and sulfur oxides (SOx) down 90 percent over eight years of aggressive clean air measures.
Tomley to Oversee Long Beach Green Port Programs
The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners this week appointed Heather A. Tomley as the new Director of Environmental Planning. She will be charged with leading Green Port environmental initiatives. Tomley has been serving as the City of Long Beach Harbor Department’s Acting Director of Environmental Planning since July 2013. She will report to Managing Director of Environmental Affairs and Planning Rick Cameron.
Port to Test New Clean-air System
The Port of Long Beach will fund testing of a new air pollution-control technology for docked cargo ships, thanks to an agreement approved Monday by the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners. Crowley Recognized for Environmental Stewardship

Nominations Sought For Clean Air Awards
SAN PEDRO, Calif. — May 4, 2011 — The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are seeking nominations for the Fourth Annual San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) Air Quality Awards. The awards program provides the ports with an opportunity to recognize the exemplary efforts of port operators who go beyond the requirements of the CAAP. Nominations are due by May 13, 2011, and award recipients will be recognized this summer.
