Intrepid Returns to Manhattan
Thursday, October 02, 2008
After a 2-year stint at Bayonne Drydock to undergo $60m restoration and refurbishment efforts, the Intrepid will make its way back to Pier 86 in Manhattan. The voyage begins in Staten Island, NY and will pass the Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero as it makes its way next to Pier 86. Intrepid will be led by a United States Coast Guard Cutter, and towed by the same McAllister tugboats that pulled it from its West Side berth in 2006. Bow-to-stern refurbishment projects included the modification of interior spaces, internal exhibition upgrades, as well as a new paint job.
