Donjon Marine Dredges for Intrepid Return
Donjon Marine, Co., Inc., was contracted by the U.S. Navy, Office of the Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), as requested by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide dredging and related support services for the return of the Ex-USS Intrepid to its permanent berth located at Pier 86, Manhattan, New York. The WWII vintage U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier has been in services as a museum and educational center by the Intrepid Association in New York City.

Z-Drive on the Ohio
Delivered from Steiner Shipyard in Bayou LaBatre on September 29, the first of Southern Towing's Cummins-powered Z-drive tugs is now pushing barges on the inland waterways. Photographer Jeff L. Yates has provided Cummins Marine with the attached shot of the Frank T. Stegbauer on the Ohio River at Bay City on September 30, 2008. According to the company newsletter several wheelmen have already gone for Z-drive training. At 120 x 34 ft., this is a mid-size inland waterway towboat.

Pearl Seas Ship in Outfitting
Pearl Seas Cruises’ first ship, which was launched in March, is in its outfitting stage. “It is progressing with over 150 people working on the ship daily at Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax, Nova Scotia” said Vice President Tim Beebe. The joiner work and the electrical installation are being completed at this time. The cruise line plans to announce the ship’s name on Thursday August 14th. Pearl Seas Cruises expects the first ship to be delivered in the first quarter of 2009.

Tanker Company Coats with Intersleek 900
A second Aframax tanker belonging to Mumbai-based Mercator Lines, the 105,000 dwt Prem Divya, has been coated with International Paint’s foul release coating, Intersleek 900. The move comes just nine months after sistership Prem Pride had her vertical sides coated with the latest generation patented fluoropolymer at Dubai Drydocks World. This time though, the hull upgrade of the ‘Prem Divya’ involved the entire underwater area of the 1998-built vessel during the tanker’s second special survey.
