BIW Receive Navy Contract for Additional DDG 51 Ship

The U. S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $663m modification to a previously awarded contract to construct DDG 116, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. DDG 116 is the fourth ship in the Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class construction-continuation program.  Bath Iron Works is also under contract for the construction of DDG 115, the third ship in the program.   Jeff Geiger, president of Bath Iron Works, said, “All of us at Bath Iron Works are very pleased the Navy chose to build DDG 116 in Bath. Bath Iron Works To Launch AEGIS Destroyer

Bath Iron Works will launch its 10th Arleigh Burke Class AEGIS guided missile destroyer, Howard, on November 20 at the West Gate. The vessel bears the name of Marine Corps Sgt. Jimmie E. Howard, a Medal of Honor recipient who was honored for his leadership of a platoon against attacks by a Viet Cong force. Navy’s Top Officer Views Destroyer at Bath Iron Works

Bath, Maine — The Navy’s top officer said the next-generation of destroyer, now under construction at Maine’s Bath Iron Works, is a ‘‘marvel of engineering.’’ Admiral Jonathan Greenert toured the shipyard Wednesday, viewing assembled hull segments of the future USS Zumwalt. General Dynamics Contract for Another LCS

The U.S. Navy today awarded a contract to a Bath Iron Works-led team for the construction of Coronado (LCS 4), the second Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) to feature an innovative, high-speed trimaran hull. The 419 ft surface combatant ship, equipped with open architecture-based combat systems and computing environment developed by General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, will be manufactured by Austal USA in Mobile, Ala. BIW Moves 4,000-ton DDG 1000 Section

On Saturday, October 22, the shipbuilders of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), completed the largest and most complex ship module movement ever executed at the shipyard. The mid-forebody section of Zumwalt, the lead ship of the DDG-1000 class of guided missile destroyers, was transported 900 feet from its assembly position inside the shipyard’s Ultra Hall construction facility to the largest of the company’s three shipbuilding ways
