CRN Ready to Launch 79-metre Yacht

Italian shipyard CRN is ready to launch the M/Y 135, the new 79-metre fully custom steel and aluminium megayacht.The pre-launch positioning process has revealed the sleek shape of this imposing yacht, elegantly delineated by the smooth lines of her hull, said a press release.M/Y 135 was designed by the CRN Technical Office in partnership with the Zuccon International Project design studio, which looked after the exterior, and with the Laura Sessa architecture studio, which developed the interiors.With the aid of motorised hydraulic lift trucks, the megayacht was positioned on the slipway – the inclined surface where the pre-launch operations will be completed over the next few weeks.Handling a yacht weighing over 1,400 tons was a complex and spectacular operation, made possible by the tota

Alia Launched the 41m Superyacht Rüya

Turkish shipyard Alia Yachts has launched the 41.29 metre full-displacement motor yacht Rüya. She is a tri-deck sub-500 gross tonne motoryacht that was built in all-composite to Lloyds Register standards and adheres to LY2 and MCA. Following a build period of just over two years, Rüya will now undergo extensive sea trials before delivery to her new owners in September 2015. “We have kept a low profile to date, because building high quality custom yachts has always been our main focus,” says Gokhan Celik, President of Alia Yachts. “And this approach has paid off. Yacht 'Step One' Sea Trials Satisfy Owner, Loyds Register

The brand new Amels 55-metre yacht, STEP ONE, has completed all tests at sea to the satisfaction of classification bureau Lloyds Register and the Owner’s Representative, US-based Moran Yachts & Ship. Amels project manager Roeland Berrevoets commented: “This design has now been tried and tested, which means that there were no surprises. STEP ONE’s exterior is designed by the renowned British designer Tim Heywood and her full custom interior by Laura Sessa. She is the first in line of the 55 metres series and measures 660 gt.

HydroComp Announces PropExpert 2010

HydroComp PropExpert is a software tool for the sizing and analysis of propellers for workboats and pleasure craft. It provides the tools needed for the proper selection of propulsion system components - engine, gear and propeller. • Speed prediction – New speed prediction algorithms were developed to insure accurate prediction of real speed and power for Catamarans, Riverboats (new), and Sailboats. • Additional vessel types – In addition to the standard “Displacement”, “Planing” and other vessel types, new types (e.g., Riverboat) allow for improved prediction of associated Vessel parameters and speed prediction. • New data checking – Additional data checks confirm reliable performance, such as a new check for face cavitation with highly cupped propeller.

Huntingford, Davenport Join Capilano Maritime

Capilano Maritime Design Ltd., a naval architecture design firm based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada announced that John Huntingford has recently joined the firm as Senior Structural Designer. Huntingford gained experience in the maritime industry as an Outfit Designer for Kvaerner Masa Marine where he worked on design projects for the State of Maine and Alaska, as well as patrol vessels for Australia. He graduated from the Landing School of Boat Building and Yacht Design in Maine, USA and has most recently worked as a Designer and Technical Liaison for Vancouver Shipyards Ltd.

Burger Boat’s Sycara IV Sea Trial

Sycara IV, a classically-styled custom 151 ft Fantail Motor Yacht, underwent an extensive sea trial on Lake Michigan where all systems were tested. Her owners, being particularly concerned about the environment, wanted this yacht to have low fuel consumption and a small wake that would not cause damage to the shoreline. Dry Blue Star Returns to the Burger Shipyard

Blue Star, a 1987 86.5 ft Raised Pilot House Burger, returned home to the Burger shipyard to have routine maintenance performed. She arrived at the shipyard Tuesday June 9, 2009 after a 10 hour run from Grand Haven, Michigan where she had spent the winter. Once at the Burger facilities she was hauled utilizing Burger’s 500mt Marine Travelift. The Burger Service Team is working closely with the Captain and crew of to assure a rapid return to the water as she is scheduled to spend most of her summer cruising Lake Superior.

Trinity Yachts Reopens Industrial Canal France Road Facility

Trinity Yachts, has recently re-opened their original shipyard, located on the Industrial Canal in the Eastern section of New Orleans, Louisiana. The 38 acre yard with almost 10 acres of covered building area suffered badly from the effects of the hurricane water and almost 70% of the work force lost their homes. After partial power, rudimentary communications and general infrastructure returned to the yard and using many local employees to continue the clean-up and repairs, Trinity officially re-opened its doors on July 5th. Fortunately because the New Orleans shipyard is above sea level and located outside of New Orleans levee system, it was not exposed to the weeks of flooding most of the city endured.

News: Skipperliner Builds New Production Facility

SkipperLiner is one of the most famous names in commercial and pleasure boating. Over 1,000 vessels have been built at their facility in Lacrosse, Wisc. This includes a series of pleasure boats and commercial boats in the 75-150-ft. range including paddleboats, low air draft canal boats and sleek Italian design custom yachts. To keep up with their expanding business, SkipperLiner opened a new production center at the beginning of the year. The eight-acre facility includes a 60,000 sq. ft. climate controlled area where the vessels will be built, a painting/coating center, sandblast area with a closed loop filtration system. In addition two support buildings add 34,000 sq. ft. to the production center.

Newport Shipyard Expands Management

Newport Shipyard is expanding its management team in order to handle an influx of new work. Mark Mutty, with over 28 years in the boating industry and well versed in both yacht and commercial applications of yacht repair and maintenance, is the Yard Manager for the Shipyard. He was previously Facilities/Yard Manager for Hinckley Yacht Services (formerly Little Harbor Marine) and for Newport Offshore Ltd. Ann Souder, the Director of Marketing, has been a consultant on marketing and promotions to the super yacht industry. She has over 25 years experience in marketing both in the United States and Europe. In addition to her marketing responsibilities, she will coordinate the various special events that take place at the Shipyard. Captain Tom Donovan is the Commercial Projects Manager.

Mr. Mark Mutty, with over 28 years in the boating industry and well versed in both yacht and commercial applications of yacht repair and maintenance, is the Yard Manager for the shipyard. He was previously Facilities/Yard Manager for Hinckley Yacht Services (formerly Little Harbor Marine) and for Newport Offshore Ltd. A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, R.I. Mark has been involved in three America's Cup Campaigns. Ann Souder, the Director of Marketing, has been a consultant on marketing and promotions to the super yacht industry.
