Disney Cruise Liner Arrives for NY Christening
Disney Cruise Line ship Disney Fantasy sails past Statue of Liberty for Christening Ceremony The Disney Fantasy, newest ship of Disney Cruise Line, arrives in New York after traveling nearly 3,800 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Bremerhaven, Germany. The 4,000-passenger Disney Fantasy will be christened in New York on March 1, then sail to her home port of Port Canaveral, Fla. With a maiden voyage on March 31, the Disney Fantasy will sail seven-night cruises to the Caribbean and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
Carnival to Refurb and Revisit its Fantasy
Carnival Cruise Lines' 2,056-passenger, 70,000-ton Fantasy is currently undergoing an extensive multi-million-dollar refurbishment as part of its scheduled five-week drydock. The refurbishment, which is taking place at the Freeport Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas, will include a new lobby bar, remodeled cabins and a redesigned promenade. Color Fantasy Undergoes First Inspection
After a fierce international competition, Blohm + Voss Repair has won the order for classification work on the world’s largest cruise ferry with car decks - the M/S Color Fantasy for ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems’ Repair Group. Aker Yards to Build a Second Cruise Ship for Color Line
Aker Yards and Color Line have signed a contract to build a sister vessel to MS Color Fantasy, the worlds largest cruise ship with car deck, that was delivered in December 2004. The agreement includes a buyers option to purchase a third vessel. The new vessel will be named MS Color Magic, and will traffic the route Oslo - Kiel as from the fourth quarter 2007. Color Line, Aker Yards Sign for Cruise Ship
Color Line AS and Aker Yards signed a letter of intent (LOI) for the order of a second ship, a sister vessel to M/S Color Fantasy, the world's largest cruise ship with car decks delivered from Aker Finnyards the 3rd of December 2004. The contract value is at the same level as for M/S Color Fantasy, approximately EUR 300 million. The agreement is subject to certain conditions, including Color Line and Aker Yards board approval
Euronav Sells Tankers
Euronav NV announced that the company sold two double-hull Aframaxes, the Fantasy (2002–106,560 dwt) and the Fidelity (2002–106,548 dwt), for an aggregate selling price of $137 million. The capital gain of this sale transaction of about $44.5 million will be recorded in the second half of 2008 upon delivery of the ships to their new owner. The company had purchase options on the two ships which were on bareboat charter to Euronav since 2002
P&O Enforces New Security Measures
P&O will deploy sniffer dogs at the start of its cruises to deter drug use, Seven.com.au reported. In a new security measure, sniffer dogs will search passengers embarking on cruises aboard the Pacific Sun and Pacific Star ships, and any passengers found to be carrying drugs will be refused entry and referred to police. Since September 2002, P&O had implemented a number of improvements to security, including the appointment of seagoing security officers and increasing security at embarkation
Euronav NV Implements Tanklog Transaction
Euronav NV completed the first tranche of the implementation of the Tanklog transaction. Five newbuilding contracts and two bareboat time charter contracts were novated to Euronav in exchange for a cash payment and a capital increase by means of a contribution in kind by which a total of 1,534,310 new shares were issued to companies related to Tanklog Shipholdings Ltd. The new shares will be listed on Euronext as from June 30, 2005
Russian Navy Denies Kursk Weapons Allegations
The Russian navy dismissed on Thursday a report that the Kursk submarine was carrying nuclear weapons when it plunged to the sea floor last August, killing all 118 sailors on board. "I categorically deny this information. From the first day of the catastrophe we said there were no nuclear weapons on board the atomic submarine Kursk," a Russian Navy official said.
