Strategic Marine Delivers Two Windfarm Service Vessels
Specialist boatbuilder Strategic Marine delivered the Njord Puffin to offshore windfarm service fleet operator Njord Offshore for deployment in Northern Europe. “The Puffin is the sixth in a series of eight vessels ordered, a strong signal of our commitment to the global windfarm industry,” said Rodney Davies, Operations Manager at Strategic Marine. “Last week we delivered the fifth, the Njord Petrel. BP Tankers Back in Service Following Anchor Malfunction
BP says it has put a fleet of double-hull tankers back in service after two ships lost their anchors last month in the Gulf of Alaska. The Alaskan Navigator and the Alaskan Frontier have each been outfitted with two new anchors. A spokesman said an investigation found the metal in the China-made anchors might not have been properly tempered to strengthen the metal. Shipbuilding: Keppel Wins $113m in Brazilian Contracts
Keppel Singmarine Brasil (KSM Brasil), Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M)'s new 7.6-ha shipbuilding facility in the state of Santa Catarina, has secured two newbuild contracts worth about $113 million from fleet operators in Brazil. The first contract entails building a series of six 45-tonne bollard pull twin-screw Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) harbour tugboats, for REBRAS - Rebocadores do Brasil S.A. (SMIT Rebras).
Study Analyzes Reduction of Downstreaming Incidents
In fleeting operations, a towboat operator will frequently perform a maneuver known as "downstreaming," which involves positioning the boat above the fleet, then moving downstream with the current to land on a barge and remove it from the fleet. Typically, downstreaming is a common procedure and normally performed without incident. However, in the past, the maneuver has resulted in a number of vessel sinkings and crew fatalities.
