Foresight Takes Delivery of New Jackup Drilling Rig

London-based international law firm Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) advised Foresight Group of Dubai on the delivery arrangements relating to a LeTourneau Super 116E jackup drilling rig named “VIVEKANAND 3”.The rig was constructed in China by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Dalian Shipyard (“Cosco Dalian”) and is one of three jackup rigs constructed, delivered and employed over the last three years; a great achievement given the current challenges faced by the offshore drilling market.VIVEKANAND 3 will be deployed on charter to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (“ADNOC”) and is the last of the three rigs built for Foresight by Cosco Dalian.

Quebec Eyes More Federal Shipbuilding Contracts

Quebec's National Assembly unanimously adopted a motion in support of the Federal government's reform or 'refresh' of the National Shipbuilding Strategy.The motion called upon the federal government to endorse the House of Commons and Senate's recommendations to proceed immediately with the construction at Davie Shipbuilding of a second Resolve-Class Naval Support Ship as well as a new fleet of icebreakers for the Canadian Coast Guard.During 2017, the Federal government conducted a review of the National Shipbuilding Strategy in order to reform the failed strategy and begin to deliver ships for Canada in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Rowan Buys Two Jack-up Rigs from Petrobras

Offshore driller Rowan Companies plc said it has purchased two LeTourneau Super 116E jack-up rigs, the P-59 and P-60, both delivered new into service in 2013, in a public auction from a subsidiary of Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. for $38.5 million per unit. As reported in May 2017, Rowan was the high bidder in a Petrobras public auction with a bid price of $30 million per rig. While the high bid was not accepted by Petrobras, after negotiations, both parties agreed to the revised price. Rowan sad it intends to mobilize the jack-ups to the Middle East from their current location in Brazil in late first quarter 2018. Lamprell Delivers 9th Jackup Drill Rig to NDC

Lamprell announced the completion of construction of Al Lulu, the final jackup drilling rig in a series of nine delivered to Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (NDC). The contract for the NDC Al Lulu rig was awarded in April 2015, one of only three rig orders awarded that year. All nine rigs have been designed according to the Cameron LeTourneau Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design and were completed to the highest standards of quality using the latest in drilling system technology, the builder said.

Cosco Delays Delivery of Jack-up Rigs for Northern

Cosco (Dalian) Shipyard, subsidiary of Cosco Shipyard Group, has reached an agreement with Bermuda-based rig owner Northern Offshore to further delay the delivery dates of two jack-up drilling rigs amid challenging offshore drilling market. Dalian shipyard received an order for two LeTourneau Super 116E jack-up drilling rigs in November 2013 and the plan was to deliver the rigs in 1H2016 and 2H2016, respectively. According to the new agreement between the Chinese yard and Northern Offshore deliveries of the two rigs will also be deferred until further notice. Cosco Corp said that it is not possible to ascertain the financial impact of the rescheduling of the acceptances and deliveries of the rigs because it is uncertain when the rig owner will take delivery of the rigs.

Eighth Lamprell Rig for NDC

Lamprell announces the completion of construction on a further jackup drilling rig, the “Al Hudairiyat”, and its delivery to Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (“NDC”), within budget and as scheduled. Completion and delivery of the jackup rig was marked at an inauguration ceremony held at Lamprell’s Hamriyah facility in the U.A.E. yesterday. The rig was completed to the highest standards of quality using the latest in drilling system technology from our suppliers and will depart the facility in Q1 en route to its drilling location in Abu Dhabi. The contract for the NDC “Al Hudairiyat” rig was signed in November 2014 and this is the eighth rig in a series of nine being built and delivered by Lamprell to NDC.

Cathelco MGPS for Latest Lamprell-built Jack-up

Cathelco will provide a marine growth prevention system (MGPS) for the latest in a series of jack-up drilling rigs to be built by Lamprell, the UAE based  leading provider of fabrication, engineering and contracting services to the offshore and onshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries. This will be the ninth MGPS to be supplied to Lamprell for jack-up rigs constructed at its Hamriyah facility. The order was won by Cathelco Middle East FZC based in Sharjah which was set up in 2015 to provide sales and engineering support for customers throughout the region.

Keppel Acquires LeTourneau

Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M), through its wholly owned subsidiary, Keppel Offshore & Marine USA, Inc., has completed the acquisition of Cameron International Corporation's offshore product division, which comprises the LETOURNEAU jackup rig designs, rig kit business, as well as its aftersales and aftermarket services. The acquisition will not only broaden Keppel O&M's suite of jackup rig designs but also expand its business in the provision of aftersales and aftermarket services, the company said. Keppel Acquires Cameron's Rig Business

Singapore's Keppel Offshore & Marine (KOM), via subsidiary, Keppel Offshore & Marine USA  has inked a deal with Cameron International Corporation, a US-based oil and gas solutions provider, to acquire its offshore rigs business for US$100mln. This segment is made up of Cameron's proprietary LeTourneau jack up rigs designs, its rig kit business, and aftermarket services. The LeTourneau jack up rigs designs have been popular with certain market segments and will help Keppel expand its suite of jackup rig offerings, Keppel said in a statement. Under the agreement, a new subsidiary known as "NewCo" will be 100%-owned KOM USA, which houses the offshore rig business.

Lamprell Delivers Rig to National Drilling Co.

Lamprell announced the construction of the jackup drilling rig, the “Butinah”, and delivery to Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (NDC) safely and within budget. This comes following an announcement last week where NDC exercised one of its existing options and awarded a further contract to Lamprell to build a ninth rig in the series. The “Butinah” rig, which achieved an exceptional safety record, departed Lamprell’s Hamriyah facility on 1 May, and is sailing to its drilling location in the Zakum Field off Abu Dhabi. The contract for the NDC “Butinah” rig was signed in April 2012 and this is the sixth in a series of nine rigs being built and delivered by Lamprell to NDC. All nine rigs have been or will be designed according to the Cameron LeTourneau Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design.

Northern Offshore Delays Deliveries for Two Jack-up Rigs

The Houston-based Rig player Northern Offshore has negotiated a nine month delay for the delivery of two high specification jack up rigs Energy Engager and Energy Encounter. It will push back the delivery of the Energy Engager and Energy Encounter from a shipyard in China. The Energy Engager will now be delivered in December 2016 and the Energy Encounter will be delivered in June 2017. Northern Offshore placed orders for the two LeTourneau Super 116E class jackups in October 2013, with the rigs are reportedly being built at COSCO Dalian shipyard in China. The delay will allow the company to defer $22 million in owner furnished equipment expenditures for the units from calendar year 2015 to 2016.

Lamprell Delivers Jackup Rig to Greatship

Lamprell announced it has completed construction on jackup drilling rig Greatdrill Chaaru, delivering the rig to Greatship Global Energy Services Pte. Ltd. Greatdrill Chaaru has been designed according to the LeTourneau Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design. The rig’s construction was undertaken on a fast-track basis, completed 18 months after initial steel cutting. The naming ceremony was held at Lamprell’s Hamriyah facility in the UAE on February 9. Lamprell said Greatdrill Chaaru is due to sail to its drilling location in India within the next few days, joining its sister vessel, the Greatdrill Chaaya, which Lamprell delivered in January 2013. Both rigs are contracted to work for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in the offshore Indian territorial waters.

The Lamprell Group delivers its 12th Super 116E jackup drilling unit. Lamprell has announced the completion of construction on the jackup rig Jindal Pioneer and its delivery to Dev Drilling Pte Ltd of Singapore, a D. P. Jindal Group Company. Lamprell has completed the construction of jackup drilling rig, the Shuwehat, and has delivered the rig to Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (NDC) within budget and as scheduled. The delivery follows Lamprell’s announcement on November 12 stating that the group received a new $365 million contract award from NDC for the construction of two further jackup drilling rigs of a similar design and specification. Shuwehat is the fifth in a series of eight rigs ordered in April 2012 with the LeTourneau Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design which are being built and delivered by Lamprell to NDC.

New Recommendations to Avoid Jacking System Failure

A joint industry project on jacking system maintenance and inspection has resulted in a new DNV GL Recommended Practice. This provides guidance to ensure the correct and safe functioning of rack and pinion style jacking systems. The objective is to reduce the risk of gear failure, resulting in lower costs and higher availability throughout the asset’s life time. The consequences of jacking gear failure can be severe and, while the problem is acknowledged by the industry, the correct maintenance and inspection of the jacking systems have proven to be challenging due to the high turnover of people with specific knowledge on board, the evolving nature of the systems and the intermittent use of the systems.

China's Dalian Shipyard to Build Deepwater Jack-Up

COSCO Corporation inform that its subsidiary Dalian Shipyard has been contracted to build a jack-up rig based on the LeTourneau Super 116E Class design. The US$184-million order has been placed by Derwent Ocean Limited S.A, part of Foresight Group. COSCO inform that the new rig will be built to ABS classification, with notation A1, and will be a self elevating drilling unit capable of drilling HPHT wells. It will be capable of operating in 350 feet water, with accommodation for up to 120 persons onboard. Delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2016. Founded in June 2001, COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd, is a subsidiary of China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO). It specializes in large vessel construction, marine engineering, conversion, and providing ship repair services.

Seadrill Contracts Out Multiple Jack-Up Units

Seadrill Limited informs it has secured new contracts for the jack-up units 'West Tucana', 'West Telesto', 'West Ariel', and 'West Prospero'. Additionally, the contract for the 'West Mischief' has been extended by four months. The total revenue potential for the four new contracts and one extension is approximately US$319- million. West Tucana, a Friede & Goldman JU-2000E jack-up rig, has secured a contract offshore Angola with Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC) - Chevron's wholly owned operating unit in Angola. The contract is for a firm period of 24 months.
