Seaspan Ferries to Trial Corvus' New Blue Whale ESS

Design Complete on Floating Bauxite Terminal

Rocktree Consulting completed the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for a new floating terminal for the Bauxite Hills Mine, operated by Australia’s Metro Mining Limited.Bauxite ore is the world’s primary source of aluminum. Australia, Guinea and Brazil are the largest suppliers of bauxite to the seaborne market, while China is the main buyer.The FEED work forms part of an updated Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for the Stage 2 expansion of the Bauxite Hills Mine, located approximately 95km north of Weipa, Queensland, Australia.

Walsh & Sons Selects Damen Multi Cat

UK-based construction services provider S. Walsh & Sons has ordered a Multi Cat 1908 from Damen Shipyards Group. After finalizing a number of modifications, Damen will deliver the 19-meter long vessel ten weeks after receiving the order.Part of the GRS Group, S. Walsh & Sons is London’s premier construction partners, delivering end-to-end materials handling services to the UK civil engineering and construction industries. This comprises excavation, freight (marine, rail and road), materials processing, environmental management, and land remediation.

Wisconsin Shipyards Awarded Nearly $2 Mln in Grants

Wisconsin shipyards Bay Shipbuilding and Fraser Shipyards have been awarded nearly $2 million in 2018 Small Shipyard Grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today.The Small Shipyard Grant Program helps small shipyards, like Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay and Fraser Shipyards in Superior, repair and modernize equipment, and train workers.“In Wisconsin, and across America, small shipyards are considered the lifeblood of the maritime economy.

Cargotec, JCE Invest AB Form Joint Bulk Business

Cargotec has signed an agreement with JCE Invest AB to establish a joint venture, Bruks Siwertell Group, specialised in dry bulk handling. The new joint venture will own Siwertell AB (previously part of Kalmar Business Area within Cargotec) and BRUKS Holding AB (previously part of JCE Group). Both companies are world-leading suppliers of bulk materials handling solutions. Cargotec will own 48% of the shares in Bruks Siwertell Group, and JCE Invest AB will own the rest, 52%. The ownerships are included to venturers' consolidated financial statements in accordance with the applicable regulation. The transaction has been signed and closed on 9 May 2018. "This joint venture supports Cargotec's strategy to focus on container ports, heavy industrial segment and logistics.

CARENA Acquires New Dock

The Compagnie Abidjanaise de Réparation Navale et de maintenance industrielle (CARENA), subsidiary of the Bolloré Group and the SOFIA Group, just acquired a 3rd dock, enhancing the operational capacity of West Africa’s biggest shipyard. With this new dock, CARENA is increasing its hosting capacity by over 40 %. With this 175-metre-long and 26-metre-wide piece of equipment – a nearly 5 billion CFA Franc investment – CARENA’s teams now have more space to accommodate larger ships and receive new clients. Case Study: Samalaju Port’s New Bulk Handling Facilities

Paul Charlton, Managing Director of BMT WBM’s Machinery Group discusses the new bulk handling facilities being built at Samalaju Port in East Malaysia. In its efforts to efficiently service the anticipated increase in cargo which will be generated by industries relocating to the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd, a Malaysian government-linked company, is investing approximately RM1.89 billion ($500 million USD) in the emerging port of Samalaju in East Malaysia.

18 Kalmar RT 240s for US DoD

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received an order to supply a further 18 rough terrain container handlers to the United States Department of Defense. Destined to replace older equipment, the Kalmar RT240s will be delivered to multiple locations across the United States by the end of the year 2015. The total value of the order is approximately EUR 16 million (USD 18 million). The Kalmar RT240 provides exceptional performance, able to handle containerised loads of up to 53,000lbs (24 tonnes) across all types of terrain. Commenting on the order, Stephen Speakes, President and CEO at Kalmar RT Center (KRTC) in Cibolo, Texas, said, "This is yet another endorsement of the great quality of Kalmar's solutions for rough terrain applications.

Kalmar's 18 forklifts for Vix Logistica

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has announced an order from Vix Logistica S.A, Brazil, for 18 heavy forklift trucks. The order consists of eight Kalmar DCF300-12LB, two DCE120-6 and eight DCF200-12LB forklift trucks, adding to Vix Logistica's substantial existing Kalmar fleet of 16 heavy forklift trucks. They will be employed primarily on materials handling applications allied to steel products. The delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2015. Vix Logistica is Brazil's leading logistics operator and is currently expanding to meet the growing needs of the industry. The company offers different services including stowing cargo in ships, bonded cargo transportation, port building/cleaning, and cargo handling - all relying heavily on the use of forklifts.

BHP Ships 1 bln Tonnes to China

BHP Billiton last night celebrated the shipment of its one billionth tonne of iron ore to China with customers, industrial associations, joint venture partners, suppliers and employees in Shanghai. BHP Billiton’s Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mackenzie was joined by President Iron Ore Jimmy Wilson, President HSE, Marketing and Technology Mike Henry, President Coal Dean Dalla Valle and guests to reveal the commemorative plaque to mark the milestone. Mr Mackenzie said BHP Billiton, a leading global resources company, was proud to contribute to the important trading relationship between China and Australia and to the country’s steel industry. “China is of immense importance to BHP Billiton and to Australia,” he said.

Robert Allan Ltd. Contracted for Teekay FSO Conversion

Robert Allan Ltd. announced that it was selected by Teekay Shipping (Canada) Ltd. to provide the contract engineering package for the conversion of the M/V Navion Clipper from a shuttle tanker into a Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) unit. Teekay Offshore Partners LLP, a subsidiary of Teekay Corporation, was awarded a contract in 2013 to supply a FSO unit to the Bualuang Field in the Gulf of Thailand. The contract is for a 10-year charter, with extension options. The oilfield is operated by Salamander Energy and has been in production at this site since 2008. The scope of work from Robert Allan Ltd. includes the design of the crude oil export and import systems (turret design and supply by London Marine Consultants)…

Peel Ports Invests £8m in the Port of Liverpool

An £8 million investment in the Port of Liverpool’ animal feed warehouse facility makes it the largest of its type in the U.K., increasing capacity by 60% to 400,000sq.ft, allowing Peel Ports Group to add value to its customer supply chains and create effective logistics solutions, the company said. The Port of Liverpool is the U.K.’s most centrally positioned port and can uniquely connect by water to the major conurbations of Glasgow, Dublin, Belfast and Manchester, via the Manchester Ship Canal.
