Evalend to Join Lasco Logger Pool

Two of Evalend Shipping Co. S.A. newly purchased logger ships, the Ambassador and the Senator, have been placed in the Lasco Logger Pool. Evalend, a private management company in Athens, Greece, operates ten ships in its fleet, committed two Hakodate built loggers to the Pool, which is commercially managed by Lasco. Evalend will perform its own technical management of its vessels. In commenting on the announcement, Anton U. Pardini, President/COO of Lasco, said that EVALEND’S participation in the Pool “…reflects Lasco’s ongoing efforts to establish strategic partnerships with other maritime ventures who share a common vision and philosophy, committed to providing reliable service and quality vessels, in order to better utilize tonnage.” He added that this reflects Lasco’s continued efforts to attract quality vessel owner/operators to create the added value the Pool’s charter flexibility and one stop chartering services benefits for its customers. Pardini went on to call attention to Lasco’s constant efforts to improve its capabilities to make forward fixtures and reduce ballast legs, aggressively positioning cargo opportunities. “Taking best advantage of backhaul cargoes, triangulating ports of call within the Pacific markets and reducing unnecessary ballast days are key components”, Pardini stated, “of the Pool’s benefit to both shippers and Pool members.”


MOL Forms New Medium Range Tanker Pool

MOL, Ultranav, OSG and Asahi Tanker reach agreement to pool product tanker operation Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced that a pool agreement governing the formation of a new medium range pool has been signed among the partners: MOL, Asahi Tanker Co., Ltd., Ultranav International S. A.(Ultranav) ., and OSG International, Inc. The new pool, Clean Products Tankers Alliance, will operate a combined fleet of around 60 medium range vessels


Clipper Projects Heads Up New MPP Ship Pool

Denmark-based Clipper Projects sets up multi-purpose (MPP) pool, which will form an integrated part of the current Clipper Projects MPP fleet. The founding members of the pool are:     •    Enzian Ship Management of Zurich, Switzerland     •    Freese Shipping of Stade, Germany     •    Clipper Projects of Copenhagen, Denmark


Star Tankers Pool Expands

Heidmar Inc. announced on Feb. 12 that longstanding pool member, Tsakos Shipping and Trading S. A., entered the M/T Selini into the Star Tankers pool on January 12, 2009. A second new building, the M/T Salamina, is scheduled to enter the Star Tankers pool in mid-February. Both vessels were built at Sungdong Shipyard in Korea.  Heidmar also announced that Sanko Steamship Co. has committed two additional vessels to the Star Tankers pool

Heidmar Enters Dry Bulk with TBS Ocean

Nordic Shipholding Profits below Market Expectations

For the 3 months ended 31 March 2016, Nordic Shipholding A/S generated a profit after tax of USD 1.5 million, compared to USD 2.7 million in the same quarter last year.  The average daily TCE rate earned by the vessels in the Handytankers Pool was below the forecasted daily rate, and also lower than the rates earned during the same period in 2015, whilst the LR1 vessel (Nordic Anne) tracked the forecasted daily rate.


Heidmar Names van der Zijde CEO

The Board of Directors of Heidmar has announced the appointment of Hans van der Zijde as Heidmar's new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. van der Zijde graduated from the Nautical Academy of Rotterdam in 1985 and subsequently studied Maritime and Logistic Management there, graduating in 1992. Mr. van der Zijde has worked for and held management positions in leading shipping companies in Europe, South Africa and Asia.  He has overall experience across most of the shipping segments


CSL and Upper Lakes Group Sign Letter of Intent

Sam Hayes, President of The CSL Group Inc. (CSL) and Jack Leitch, Chairman of Upper Lakes Group Inc. (ULS) have announced the signing of a Letter of Intent concerning the purchase by CSL of ULS' 50 percent share of Marbulk Canada Inc. (MCI). MCI is owned jointly by ULS and Algoma Central Corporation (Algoma). Scorpio Tankers Charter Agreements for Four Vessels

Scorpio Tankers Inc., a provider of marine transportation of petroleum products worldwide, has entered into time charter agreements for four vessels, BW Zambesi, Krisjanis Valdemars, Kraslava and Histria Azure. BW Zambesi, a 2010 built LR1 tanker (76,578 dwt), was chartered-in for one year at $13,850 per day. The vessel was delivered in December 2010. The agreement includes an option for Scorpio Tankers to extend the charter for an additional year at $14,850 per day.

The American Waterways Operators (AWO) and ClassNK have signed an agreement under which ClassNK will be authorized to conduct audits of AWO's Responsible Carrier Program, a safety management system for towing vessels with which all AWO members must comply as a condition of association membership


Navig8 Chemical Adds New Tanker from Kitanihon

 Chemical shipping company Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc. has taken delivery of its first stainless steel chemical tanker, the Navig8 Sirius, from Japanese shipbuilder Kitanihon Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.    Navig8 Sirius is a 25,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker.

Nordic American Tankers Fixes Suezmax on Timecharter

Nordic American Tankers Ltd. (NYSE:NAT) entered into a 30 months charter contract with a subsidiary of ExxonMobil (EM) for one of the NAT suezmaxes.  The firm period is 18 months with an option of further 12 months. The gross revenue from the contract of 30 months is about $25 million
