Evalend to Join Lasco Logger Pool
Two of Evalend Shipping Co. S.A. newly purchased logger ships, the Ambassador and the Senator, have been placed in the Lasco Logger Pool. Evalend, a private management company in Athens, Greece, operates ten ships in its fleet, committed two Hakodate built loggers to the Pool, which is commercially managed by Lasco. Evalend will perform its own technical management of its vessels. In commenting on the announcement, Anton U. Pardini, President/COO of Lasco, said that EVALEND’S participation in the Pool “…reflects Lasco’s ongoing efforts to establish strategic partnerships with other maritime ventures who share a common vision and philosophy, committed to providing reliable service and quality vessels, in order to better utilize tonnage.” He added that this reflects Lasco’s continued efforts to attract quality vessel owner/operators to create the added value the Pool’s charter flexibility and one stop chartering services benefits for its customers. Pardini went on to call attention to Lasco’s constant efforts to improve its capabilities to make forward fixtures and reduce ballast legs, aggressively positioning cargo opportunities. “Taking best advantage of backhaul cargoes, triangulating ports of call within the Pacific markets and reducing unnecessary ballast days are key components”, Pardini stated, “of the Pool’s benefit to both shippers and Pool members.”
Star Tankers Pool Expands
Heidmar Inc. announced on Feb. 12 that longstanding pool member, Tsakos Shipping and Trading S. A., entered the M/T Selini into the Star Tankers pool on January 12, 2009. A second new building, the M/T Salamina, is scheduled to enter the Star Tankers pool in mid-February. Both vessels were built at Sungdong Shipyard in Korea. Euronav, Partners Buy World’s Largest Tankers
Euronav, the tanker subsidiary of the CMB group, together with partners have reached an agreement for the acquisition of four double hull ‘V plus’ ships (also known as Ultra Large Crude Carriers) of 442,500 dwt. The vessels are: Hellespont Alhambra, Hellespont Tara, Hellespont Fairfax and Hellespont Metropolis. The ships will be delivered in the course of the months of May and June 2004 and will be renamed: TI Asia, TI Europe, TI America and TI Africa
Nordic Seaarland Names New Carriers
Nordic Seaarland Tankers BV has named two new 37,500 dwt product/chemical tankers building at Korea's Hyundai Mipo yard. Mt Nordic Agnetha was delivered on 8th May 2009, while Mt Amy will be delivered in July. Both vessels will be managed by Netherlands-based Seaarland Shipping Management, and will be entered into the Handytankers pool. The two vessels bring the fleet of the Nordic Seaarland joint venture to five modern product/chemical carriers.
Scorpio Tankers Charter Agreements for Four Vessels
Scorpio Tankers Inc., a provider of marine transportation of petroleum products worldwide, has entered into time charter agreements for four vessels, BW Zambesi, Krisjanis Valdemars, Kraslava and Histria Azure. BW Zambesi, a 2010 built LR1 tanker (76,578 dwt), was chartered-in for one year at $13,850 per day. The vessel was delivered in December 2010. The agreement includes an option for Scorpio Tankers to extend the charter for an additional year at $14,850 per day.
Hellespont Opts for Navig8 Pool
Hamburg-based Hellespont Group has agreed with Navig8 Chemicals to enter four IMO2 tankers into the Brizo8 Pool. The ships in question are the Hellespont Centurion, Hellespont Challenger, Hellespont Charger and Hellespont Chieftain. All are 17,000dwt, built in 2009 and 2010 and are managed by Hamburg-based Hellespont Ship Management GmbH & Co KG.
