New Sinkable Barge for Salvage Ops

Worldwide, $1.2b of ships, boats, pollutants and the like are salvaged from oceans and lakes annually. The Salvage-Retriever from Marine Flotation Products reduces the need for costly, awkward cranes, chains and other heavy equipment, while providing a means to clean-up debris fields or raise articles to the surface for reclamation. Extremely durable, it can be used repeatedly for years. The patent-pending Salvage-Retriever is composed of two inflatable pontoons attached to a collapsible frame carrying a submersible barge. With the pontoons deflated, Salvage-Retriever quickly sinks to the bottom of a lake or ocean. Divers load the barge with the salvaged articles, then the pontoons are inflated, raising the barge above the surface for safe retrieval. It can then be attached to its own mini-tugboat (sold separately) to transport the salvaged goods or marine hazards to another vessel or to shore. Salvage-Retriever is available with a standard 15 ft by 30 ft barge and 40 inch diameter pontoons, or custom-made to any size to meet a salvor's specific needs. The standard Salvage-Retriever weighs only 2,000 lbs. and lifts 40,000 lbs. With a working air pressure of 3-10 psi, the pontoons inflate in 5 to 7 minutes, depending on size. The fiberglass composite frame and container are simple to assemble and disassemble for ease of transportation and use.


GoAGT: “Kidnapping of U.S. citizens off Nigeria was avoidable”

The attack on a U.S.-flagged platform supply vessel C-Retriever by pirates off Nigeria’s coast, which resulted in two U.S. citizens being kidnapped, could have been completely avoided, maritime security firm GoAGT said. Forum to Provide Offshore Trenching System to Global Marine

Forum Energy Technologies contracts with Global Marine Systems to supply a PerryTM XT 600 Trenching System. The XT 600 Trenching System is scheduled for delivery in 2013. It will be installed in the Global Marine vessel the Cable Retriever, based in the Philippines, and will replace the T205 trencher that was previously supplied by Forum/Perry in 2000. Piracy Update: Nautilus Calls for Gulf of Guinea Action

Nautilus International has expressed concern about the seizure of a master and chief engineer officer from an offshore support vessel operating in the Gulf of Guinea. The two men — both reported to be U.S. citizens — were taken from the U.S.-owned platform supply vessel C-Retriever off the Nigerian coast in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The U.S.-flagged vessel, owned by Edison Chouest, was working off Brass, Nigeria.


Kidnapping on the Rise in the Gulf of Guinea

According to a special advisory warning recently issued by U.K. maritime intelligence provider Dryad Maritime, there has been an increased threat of crew kidnap in the Gulf of Guinea. And since the issue of Dryad’s warning, two further attacks on vessels have taken place within a single week, as two Nigerian-flagged vessels were targeted by maritime criminals on consecutive days, resulting in the kidnap of six crew members.


Derecktor Florida Delivers Gulf Sentry Refit

The Gulf Sentry is one of FWC’s Endurance Class Off-shore Patrol vessels and the largest in the fleet at 85 ft.  The vessel was originally named JJ Brown and was manufactured in 1968 for the United States Air Force (USAF) and used as a missile retriever until 1994.  The vessel was then used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and was eventually loaned to FWC, who operated the vessel for the next 14 years for federal fisheries enforcement

Navy, Industry partner for research; sharing costs, risks, and rewards to reduce total ownership costs .   America’s shipyards are fierce competitors, but they can also be close collaborators.  The National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) is a cooperative effort for American shipbuilders and the U.S. Navy, with the aim of improving efficiency and economy to reduce the cost of Navy ship construction and repair in American shipyards.
