St. Louis Container on Barge Project Moves Forward

Key stakeholders behind the efforts to launch innovative container-on-vessel (COV) service to the Midwest on Firday announced that Hawtex Development Corporation is signing on as the lead developer for a new COV port facility in Jefferson County, Mo. to be developed in collaboration with Fred Weber/Riverview Commerce Park LLC and integrating a 300+ acre adjacent parcel owned by The Doe Run Company. The new port will be a critical link on the new, all-water, north-south trade lane connecting the Midwest and the St. Louis region to the lower Mississippi River and on to worldwide destinations.

BOEMRE's Draft Supplemental EIS, Central GOM Lease Sale

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) today released a Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for proposed oil and gas Lease Sale 216/222 in the Central Planning Area in the Gulf of Mexico. The draft SEIS updates the findings in several previously published environmental reviews covering the Gulf of Mexico and incorporates the latest available information following the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill. “The analyses contained in this draft SEIS will allow us to make objective, science-based decisions regarding offshore energy exploration, development and production,” said BOEMRE Director Michael R. Bromwich.

Brunswick Mothballs Knoxville Boat Plant

Brunswick Corporation (NYSE:BC) announced on Jan. 6 that it will mothball its Riverview boat manufacturing facility near Knoxville, Tenn., and take additional actions aimed at reducing its work force, production and expenses. One of three manufacturing facilities in the Knoxville area, Riverview makes Sea Ray boats and will wind down production during the first quarter of the year. To better utilize Brunswick's overall boat making capacity, production at Riverview will be moved to nearby plants in Knoxville and Vonore, Tenn., which will remain in operation. In addition, production of certain models will be transferred to Brunswick's Palm Coast manufacturing facility in Florida, and a Brunswick plant in Reynosa, Mexico.

Transportation Industry Executive, Gerald P. Toomey, Dies at 73

Transportation industry veteran Gerald P. Toomey died on Monday, November 19, at the Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. He was 73. During his long tenure inthe transportation industry, Toomey was best known for his contributions at Sea-Land Service, Inc. where he worked from 1963 until 1974. There, he was instrumental in the development of the company’s Puerto Rico and Caribbean trades, and he ultimately served as Sea-Land’s group vice president, Caribbean. In 1974, when Sea-Land spun off its Puerto Rico/Caribbean division, Toomey took the helm of Puerto Rico Marine Management, Inc. (PRMMI) as president ofthe management company that operated Navieras de Puerto Rico, the Puerto Ricanstate-owned steamship line. Toomey also worked withTrans Freight lines, a U.S.

MMS to Hold Public Hearing in Mobile

The Interior Department’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) will hold a public hearing in Mobile, Alabama on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 to solicit comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Proposed 5-Year Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2007-2012. The hearing will be held at the Riverview Plaza Hotel, 64 South Water Street, Mobile, Alabama at 1:00 p.m. Statements on the DEIS, both oral and written, will be recorded. Speakers are requested to arrive early to allow time to register to testify at the hearing. Time limits may be set on oral testimony to allow time for all speakers to participate.
