UK Navy Rescues Four From Sinking Yacht

A U.K. Royal Navy warship assisted in the rescue of four people from a yacht that was taking on water and at risk of sinking in the English Channel near the Isle of Wight.Last week, the Portsmouth-based Type 45 destroyer HMS Diamond answered a Mayday call from a civilian yacht that was taking on a significant amount of water while sailing from Beaulieu River in the New Forest toward Honfleur in France.Diamond was in the area after leaving its home port and coordinated and conducted the rescue operation…

Kirby Corporation Announces Record 2011 Fourth Quarter and Year Results. Kirby Corporation ("Kirby") (NYSE: KEX) today announced record net earnings attributable to Kirby for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011 of $56.2 million, or $1.00 per share, compared with $31.6 million, or $.59 per share, for the 2010 fourth quarter. Consolidated revenues for the 2011 fourth quarter were a record $550.1 million compared with $286.3 million reported for the 2010 fourth quarter. Kirby Expands With Three New Units

Kirby Corporation Announces Purchase of Three Coastwise Tank Barge and Tug Units; Purchased Seaboats, Inc. coastwise tank barge fleet consisting of three 80,000 barrel tank barge and tug units for $42.3 million in cash. Kirby Corporation has announced the purchase of the coastwise tank barge fleet of Seaboats, Inc. and affiliated companies consisting of three 80,000 barrel coastwise tank barge and tug units for $42.3 million in cash. The three coastwise tank barge and tug units currently operate along the East Coast and have an average age of five years. Financing of the purchase was through Kirby's $250 million revolving credit facility.

SENESCO Signs Contract, Launches Barge for Cancer Awareness Program

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) of North Kingstown, R.I., signed a major contract with Barges Unlimited, a subsidiary of Seaboats, Inc., of Fall River, Mass., to build an 80,000-bbl, 320-ft. double hull barge. The contract value is in excess of $6.5 million. With this contract signing, SENESCO will manufacture the largest double-hull barge ever constructed in the northeastern U.S. Work on the project is expected to take up to one year to complete. When finished, the barge will be used by Seaboats for the transportation and delivery of light oil products. SENESCO currently employs 110 people. However, with the addition of this contract and other business, the shipyard expects to add 40 to 50 new skilled workers to the staff.

SENESCO Signs $6.5 Million Barge Building Contract

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO), North Kingstown, R.I., has penned a contract with Barges Unlimited of Fall River, Mass. to construct an 80,000-barrel, 320-ft. (97.5 m) double hull barge valued at more than $6.5 million. Per the agreement, SENESCO will manufacture the largest double hull barge ever constructed in the Northeast. Work is expected to commence immediately and is expected to take up to one year for completion, at which time it will be utilized by Seaboats for transportation and delivery of light oil products.
