My-Villages Purchases DockMaster

My-Villages, a marine mobile technology company, has acquired DockMaster, an information management solution provider for marine retailers, marinas and service centers. The integration of DockMaster software and My-Villages’ consumer and professional application, called The Boat Village, will create an integrated software solution for marine businesses in the industry. By combining the DockMaster and The Boat Village technology products, My-Villages will serve more than 600 marinas, dealers, boatyards and marine service centers in North America and the Caribbean, and facilitate the care of tens of thousands of vessels. HydroComp Announces PropExpert 2010

HydroComp PropExpert is a software tool for the sizing and analysis of propellers for workboats and pleasure craft. It provides the tools needed for the proper selection of propulsion system components - engine, gear and propeller. • Speed prediction – New speed prediction algorithms were developed to insure accurate prediction of real speed and power for Catamarans, Riverboats (new), and Sailboats. • Additional vessel types – In addition to the standard “Displacement”, “Planing” and other vessel types, new types (e.g., Riverboat) allow for improved prediction of associated Vessel parameters and speed prediction. • New data checking – Additional data checks confirm reliable performance, such as a new check for face cavitation with highly cupped propeller.

Navy Repowers RIBs for Use as Minesweepers

Mine sweeping is no longer solely reliant on wooden hulled mine sweepers. The U.S. Navy has developed a method that involves a Sokorski helicopter towing a catamaran sea skid equipped to detect and detonate mines. Each helicopter and sled unit is accompanied by a pair diesel-powered rigid-hulled inflatable boats. The RIBs tow the sled when disengaged by the helicopter and act as general support vessels. The 24-ft. RIBs had been powered with 165 hp diesels powering Duo-prop outdrives. Complaints of frequent breakdowns and complexity of auxiliary systems making service difficult were brought to the attention of the people at the Saunders Engine Company in Panama City, Fla., who in turn consulted with their associated company Saunders Yachtworks in Orange Beach, Ala.
