Navy Accepts Delivery of Mesa Verde LPD 19

The Navy accepted delivery of Mesa Verde (LPD 19) from Northrop Grumman Ship Systems on Sept. 28. This marked the third of the San Antonio class of amphibious transport dock ships that the NGSS has delivered. Accepting for the Navy during a simple ceremony aboard the ship was Capt. Beth Dexter, the supervisor of shipbuilding representative for the Gulf Coast. On Oct. 1, the crew moved aboard the 684 foot-long warship. For the first time, Mesa Verde Sailors and Marines assumed their regular duties, such as standing watches, preparing meals for the crew and training. Over the next two months, as Northrop Grumman Ingalls Operations puts the finishing touches on the ship, the crew will be participating in various inspections and certifications including a Light-Off Assessment. Early in December, Mesa Verde will leave Pascagoula for commissioning at Panama City, Fla., on Dec. 15 before transit to the ship’s new homeport of Norfolk, Va.


SCI Takes Crude Container Delivery

State-run Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has accepted delivery of a crude container named “Desh Vishal” from Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering Co. The company had placed orders for two very large crude containers (VLCCs) in October 2005 with the South Korean company. “Desh Vishal” has a gross tonnage of 162,412 tons and is the largest vessel in the Indian Register, according to the company


Navy Accepts Delivery of Ronald Reagan

The Navy today accepted delivery of the newest aircraft carrier, Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The ship design and construction was executed under a contract awarded to Northrop Grumman Newport News (NGNN) in December 1994. Crowley Marine Services Paraguay has accepted delivery of Papu Sur, the second of two new Papu-Class river push boats to be deployed in its Mercosur barge feeder service. Harvey Gulf Will Diversify into Full Service Marine Transportation Provider

Harvey Gulf International Marine, Inc. has announced the intent to diversify into a full service marine transportation provider. President and CEO, Shane J. Guidry announced that Harvey Gulf has entered into an agreement with Eastern Shipbuilding in Panama City, Fla., for the construction of six offshore supply vessels. Each will be ABS DP2 certified with capacities of 7,000 Bbls liquid mud, 9600 Bbls bulk and 3,300 DWT tons of cargo carrying capacity.


Seaspan Accepts Delivery of 4,600-TEU Containership

Seaspan Corporation has announced  that it accepted delivery of a 4,600-TEU containership, the MOL Efficiency. The containership was constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. in 2003 and expands the Company's operating fleet to 71 vessels. The MOL Efficiency is on charter to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) under a two-year, fixed-rate time charter. The ship is the sixth of a total of eight vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to MOL.


ABA Delivers to Sunferries

Aluminium Boats Australia (ABA) has delivered its latest high speed ferry, a 98.4 ft catamaran designed by Sydney-based One2three Naval Architects. Sunferries of Townsville, Queensland, accepted delivery of the Fantome Cat from the Brisbane builder on 26 March. Fantome Cat is a near sistership to Palm Cat, and takes the total number of ABA-built vessels in its fleet to two and the number of One2three designed vessels in the Sunferries fleet to four.


Seaspan Financial Results, Three and Six Months

Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) announced the financial results for the three and six months ended June 30, 2010. Gerry Wang, Chief Executive Officer of Seaspan, stated, "During the second quarter, Seaspan achieved high utilization for its modern fleet and posted strong operating results while further expanding its contracted revenue streams. Delivery of a New VLCC to Oman Shipping

Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. accepted delivery of a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), SAMAIL, from Universal Shipbuilding Corporation, in Kawasaki city inJapan, becoming the 29th vessel to be operated by the company. The 300,000-dwt Panamanian flagged vessel SAMAIL measures 330 x 60 m with a draft of around 22 m. She will be the first VLCC to be technically managed "in house" by OSC’s subsidiary by Oman Ship Management Company S.A.O.C. in Muscat.


Baltic Trading Take Delivery of Capesize, & Charter Out

Baltic Trading Limited has accepted delivery of the first of two new bulk carriers, 'Baltic Tiger', a 179,185 dwt Capesize vessel, and found a time charter for the vessel without delay. The Baltic Tiger delivered to its charterer, Swissmarine Services S.A
