Dr. Steven Cargill Receives MTS Award
GL Noble Denton expert receives distinguished achievement award for contribution to the DP Industry. In Houston, TexasThe Marine Technology Society (MTS) Dynamic Positioning Committee honors Dr Steven Cargill with its 2012 Distinguished Achievement Award. The prize recognises Steven’s contribution to the field of dynamic positioning (DP) throughout his 28-year career within the oil and gas industry. It pays tribute to his success in developing important technical standards on failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) for DP systems, and his input to a range of international guideline documents published by the Marine Technology Society. Described to have a talent for translating his profound knowledge into understandable terms for non-specialists, Steven is one of 12 DP professionals to have been honoured with a Distinguished Achievement Award since 2001. During a special ceremony to mark the occasion in Houston, DP founder Howard Shatto characterised Steven as an active coach and mentor to industry professionals. He also praised Steven for his ability to empathise with contrasting industry opinions, and turn differing views into pragmatic technical solutions that benefit the sector. OTC Names 2013 “Distinguished Achievement Award” Recipients
The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) will present its 2013 Distinguished Achievement Awards on May 5 at the Annual OTC Dinner to Ken Arnold for individual achievement and to Total Exploration and Production for corporate achievement. In addition, the Heritage Award will be presented to E. Dendy Sloan, PhD and James Brill, PhD.
Struijs Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award
Pieter Struijs – Vice-chairman of the Executive board of the Port of Rotterdam and President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors – on September 14 was presented with the ‘Maritime Lifetime Achievement Award’ during the Maritime Security Expo in New York. Together with U.S. Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection Robert Bonner, Struijs will be presented with this award in recognition of his efforts to promote security in the shipping industry.
TAS wins Offshore Achievement Award for Safety Innovation
Houlder and BMT Nigel Gee announced that their jointly developed Turbine Access System (TAS) has won the Safety Innovations Award at the 27th Offshore Achievement Awards organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Aberdeen Section. Capt. Score Takes Command of NOAA’s Atlantic Fleet
NOAA Capt. David A. Score assumed command of the agency’s Marine Operations Center-Atlantic in Norfolk, Va., which manages the day-to-day operations of the nine research and survey ships in NOAA’s Atlantic fleet. Each year these NOAA ships conduct dozens of missions to assess fish and marine mammal stocks, conduct coral reef research, collect seafloor data to update nautical charts, and explore the ocean.
Seadrill Awards Contract to Keppel FELS
Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) has been awarded a $142 million contract by Seadrill to build a repeat semisubmersible drilling tender (SSDT) based on the KFELS SSDTTM 3600E design.
