Westwood Shipping Lines Rebrands as Swire Shipping

Swire Shipping announced that Westwood Shipping Lines, a niche vessel operator it acquired in June 2022, has changed its name to Swire Shipping.According to Sire, the rebrand—which took effect February 1—will help Westwood to leverage synergies and capabilities in containers, networks, and projects across the global Swire Shipping network to better serve customers throughout North America, Japan, South Korea and China.“The integration of Westwood Shipping Lines reflects our continued investment and expansion in the North Pacific.

Orsel Takes the Helm as ECSA's First Female President

Karin Orsel has been appointed the first female President ever in the history of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA), starting on January 1, 2024 for a two-year term, with Mikki Koskinen joining as the new Vice-President. Elisabeth Cosmatos, Managing Director of Cosmatos Group, has been elected President of The Heavy Lift Group (THLG), an international association for specialised heavy transport companies.The appointment was made as part of the executive committee election during the 68th THLG Conference on June 5.Taking over from FOX Brasil’s Murilo Caldana, Cosmatos becomes THLG’s first female president. Richard McCreary was appointed president of Hendry Marine's Tampa, Fla. repair yard Gulf Marine Repair, effective January 31, 2022. He succeeds John Gallagher, who had served as president since 2019 and is retiring.McCreary comes to Gulf Marine Repair from Vigor Works, LLC, where he was vice president of business development. He has also held executive positions at BAE Systems, Marinette Marine Corporation, VT Halter Marine and other shipbuilders in a career spanning five decades.

DEME to Buy Eidesvik's Viking Neptun Offshore Installation Vessel

Offshore installation company DEME has agreed to acquire Eidesvik's DP3 offshore installation vessel ‘Viking Neptun’. "Representing a substantial investment, this move highlights DEME’s commitment to its customers, and supports the continued growth of the offshore wind industry. This latest addition to its vessel fleet also confirms DEME’s mission to build future-proof, sustainable and environmentally friendly operations," DEME said.The Viking Neptun currently has a turntable capable of handling 4,500 tonnes of cables below deck.

Royal Caribbean to Sell Azamara Brand for $201 Million

Cruise operator Royal Caribbean Group said on Tuesday it reached a deal to sell its Azamara brand to private-equity firm Sycamore Partners for $201 million in cash, as it grapples with biting impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.Sycamore Partners will acquire the entire Azamara brand, including its three-ship fleet—Azamara Quest, Azamara Journey and Azamara Pursuit—and associated intellectual property. Halter Marine Launches US Navy Berthing Barge

Over the course of several days, Halter Marine Inc. celebrated multiple milestones on the Auxiliary Personnel Lighter–Small (APL(S)) program. The Pascagoula, Miss. shipbuilder launched the first two berthing barges, erected modules on the third barge and laid the keel on the fourth barge.In September 2018, the company received the initial contract to design and build two units, with options for four additional units. The company expects to deliver the first two APLs this fall, while the third vessel is due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2021.

Wärtsilä Reorganizes Its Marine Business

Wärtsilä announced it will reorganize its marine business into three independent entities, with the objective to accelerate strategy execution and simplify the business structure.The new businesses, consisting of Marine Power, Marine Systems and Marine Voyage, will be operational as of July 1, 2020.The organizational structure change is a continuation to the shifts made in 2019, whereby Wärtsilä's equipment and service businesses were integrated to strengthen the focus on complete lifecycle solutions

GE Renewable Energy has announced that Heiner Markhoff has been named vice-president and CEO of Grid Solutions, effective March 20, 2020.According to a press release, Markhoff has a track record of growth, transformation and operational performance in diverse global businesses. He will be based in Paris, France. Cargotec Reorganizes Kalmar

Finnish cargo-handling machinery manufacturer Cargotec said it has reorganized the businesses under its Kalmar brand and has appointed Stefan Lampa as President of Kalmar Mobile Solutions, in a move aimed at enhancing Kalmar's growth opportunities.Kalmar, a provider of cargo handling solutions and services to ports, terminals, distribution centers and heavy industry, will be reorganized into three strategic business units: Kalmar Mobile Solutions, Kalmar Automation Solutions and Navis, effective April 1, 2019. Cargotec's financial reporting structure based on three business areas Kalmar, Hiab and MacGregor will remain unchanged.Lampa has been appointed President of Kalmar Mobile Solutions and a member of the Cargotec Executive Board.

Scott Phillips has been appointed President of Hiab crane manufacturing division of Cargotec group as of 1 October 2018. He will be a member of the Cargotec Executive Board and report to CEO Mika Vehviläinen. Scott Phillips joins Cargotec from General Electric where he holds the position of Vice President and CEO Mining. Prior to that, he has during his 28 years' career held various global leadership positions in the construction and mining industries, working for Sandvik and Caterpillar Inc., among others. WISTA the Netherlands was founded in 2000 and currently has 140 members from across the maritime industry. WISTA the Netherlands focuses on a number of priority topics affecting the industry. Amongst these are sustainability, new technologies, big data, health & safety, cyber security, block chain, developing cultural sensitivity and last, but by no means least, clean oceans.

Karl-Petter Løken has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the international contracting company Kvaerner. Løken succeeds Jan Arve Haugan, who left Kvaerner for a position at Aker Energy. Kvaerner's EVP & CFO Idar Eikrem will continue as interim CEO until Løken steps into the role this spring after ending his current position as head of Project Development for Lundin Norway. Since 1991, Løken has held positions in the oil and gas industry for companies like Statoil, Aker Solutions and Lundin Norway.

Protheroe Joins Greystoke Team in Vancouver

Tim Protheroe has joined consultancy Greystoke Marine Management, headquartered in Vancouver.   Protheroe is a Master Mariner who came ashore with Lloyds Register in 1992 and worked in several senior positions before being appointed President, Lloyds Register America’s Inc. in 2014.    Greystoke recently secured a two-year contract with Swan LNG providing essential marine oversight for the company’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal development in Gujarat on the north west coast of India.
