NAMEPA to Honor Founding Chairman Maitland
The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) announced that Clay Maitland will receive the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award at an awards dinner in New York on October 26. Maitland, who is a Managing Partner of International Registries, Inc (Marshall Islands Ship Registry), is being recognized for his many industry accomplishments including being a NAMEPA co-founder. “Clay is one of the finest examples in our industry of a successful businessman who expends nearly as much energy on philanthropy,” said NAMEPA Chairman Joe Hughes. Maitland has worked in the shipping industry since graduation from law school in 1968. He was employed by International Registries, Inc.

Crowley Awards Scholarships to Four Cal Maritime Students
Crowley Maritime Corp. presented four California Maritime Academy (CMA) students with Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships during last night’s Containerization and Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards dinner in Long Beach, Calif. Crowley’s Jenny Terpenning, recruiter, marine personnel, presented the awards to recipients, Christiana Harrell, Bonnie Claire Muchnick, Taylor Sullivan and Alex Yorkman. The scholarships help to further educational opportunities for the students who were chosen based on their academic performance, financial need and interest in pursuing a career at sea after graduation. Christiana Harrell, a sophomore from Big Bear City, Calif., is pursuing a degree in marine transportation with a minor in marine science. She plans to sail after graduation.

Maritime Hall of Fame Honors Marine Visionaries
The 23rd Annual International Maritime Hall of Fame reception and awards dinner took place yesterday evening in New York where five individuals were honored in front of more than 350 of their colleagues from the international maritime transportation industry. The Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey founded the Annual International Maritime Hall of Fame in 1993 to recognize maritime visionaries who, through excellence in their company, organization or services, best exemplify the qualities of futuristic thinking that guides the maritime industry.
Cyberhawk CEO Shortlisted for EY Entrepreneur Award
Chief executive of Livingston-based Cyberhawk Innovations, Craig Roberts, has been shortlisted as a regional finalist in the 2016 EY (Ernst and Young) Entrepreneur of the Year Awards for Scotland. Formed in 2008, Cyberhawk has grown significantly to become the world leader in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) inspection and survey and in the conversion of drone captured data into powerful asset management information in the cloud. Four California Maritime Academy (CMA) cadets were awarded Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial scholarships from the Crowley Maritime Corporation. The scholarships were presented to cadets Andrew Leonard, Griffin Sims, Bonnie Claire Muchnick and Alex Yonkman by Crowley’s manager for marine development and compliance, Vicky Ellis, at Tuesday’s Containerization & Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards Dinner in Long Beach, Calif. “Crowley is proud to support the education of these cadets and future leaders in the U.S. maritime industry,” Ellis said.
