Canyon Charters Otto Candies Vessel

Subsea services company Canyon Offshore said it has entered into an agreement with vessel owner Otto Candies for the charter of the Jones Act-compliant inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) vessel Ross Candies.The charter will commence in July 2019 upon completion of a previously scheduled regulatory dry dock. 'Smart Boulders' Measure Seafloor Avalanches

Partners Aim to Bring New Trenching Vehicle to Market

Helix Energy Cuts Q2 Loss

Oil service company Helix Energy Solutions has narrowed its loss in the second quarter of 2017 backed by increased activity of its well intervention business. Mainly North Sea operations helped narrow the firm’s losses. The group, which controls Aberdeen based Helix Well Ops and Canyon Offshore, reported a net loss of $22.9million for the first six months of the year, compared to $38.5million in the same period last year. It reported a net loss of $6.4 million for the second quarter of 2017 compared to a net loss of $10.7 million for the same period in 2016. Owen Kratz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Helix, stated, "Our second quarter results benefited from a strong quarter for our well intervention business in the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

Olympic Pact with Canyon Offshore

Norwegian offshore shipping company Olympic Shipping has entered into a frame agreement with Canyon Offshore for the joint marketing and subsequent operation of the subsea construction vessel (SCV) Olympic Athene and Canyon’s ROV systems. Under the agreement the companies will work together to secure utilization for the vessel and ROV systems and services with third party clients. The framework agreement will operate initially for six months, with the potential to be evergreen thereafter. According to Olympic, the Olympic Athene has started its first job with a third party client in the U.S. Gulf under this agreement. Under this agreement, the Olympic Athene, formerly known as Olympic Boa, has already started its first job in the U.S. Gulf.

Helix to Provide McDermott ROV Services

Helix Energy says that its Robotics subsidiary, Canyon Offshore, Inc., has reached an agreement with a subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc. to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services and equipment for McDermott’s fleet of subsea construction and pipelay support vessels. The agreement is for a fixed term of three years with options to extend. Canyon will provide dual 3,000-meter ROV systems onboard McDermott vessels, which initially is expected to include the North Ocean 102, Lay Vessel North Ocean 105, Lay Vessel 108 and the Derrick Lay Vessel 2000. In addition Canyon will supply tooling, personnel and ROV project support to McDermott.

Bibby Subsea Expands in Houston

As part of its continuing global growth strategy, subsea installation contractor Bibby Offshore has announced the opening of a new division and international base in Houston. The company, that also has bases in Aberdeen, Liverpool, Singapore and Trinidad, has initially invested over £3million into the new division, Bibby Subsea Inc. As part of the expansion plan, Andrew Duncan will relocate to Houston, from his existing position of business and commercial director at the company’s Aberdeen HQ, to president and managing director of Bibby Subsea.

Offshore Solutions Signs North Sea Contract with Maersk Oil UK

Offshore Solutions BV (OSBV), the joint venture between AMEC and Cofely Nederland NV, has signed a North Sea contract with Maersk Oil UK to provide marine access support to the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit Global Producer III. Ace Winches Sets its Sights on Southeast Asia

Ace Winches, the deck machinery specialists, is coming to Malaysia’s capital as part of next month’s Oil and Gas Asia exhibition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. The company will be exhibiting as part of the Scottish Development International Scottish Pavilion in Hall 6 on Stand 6124A. Although this is the first time the Scottish manufacturing company will be on display at this trade convention, Ace Winches has a decade of experience in doing business throughout the region. In 2003 the company took its first order from Consolidated Pipe Carriers (CPC) for a ten point mooring spread consisting of 10 25-ton mooring winches and their associated Electric Hydraulic Power Units (HPU’s).

Canyon’s Quest ROV Awarded Drill Support Contracts

Canyon Offshore, Inc., has announced that it has been awarded drill support contracts on board the drilling rig Rowan Midland for its new electric Work Class ROV, Quest #3. In June, Canyon mobilized the new built Quest #3 on board the rig for Energy Resource Technologies, Inc. (ERT) to support ERT’s re-entry well work on East Cameron block 374. Upon completion of the ERT contract, Canyon will provide ROV services to Remington Oil & Gas at East Cameron 377 to support drilling and completion operations. The Quest is ideally suited for drill support and offers a number of technical innovations over traditional hydraulic work class ROV systems, especially in deepwater, due to its smaller footprint, power efficiencies and control features.

Trico Marine Takes Delivery on New Platform Supply Vessel

Trico Marine Services, Inc., has taken delivery on the Northern Canyon, a 279-ft. UT 745 design platform supply vessel (PSV). The state-of-the-art vessel is designed to serve deepwater markets worldwide. Built in Norway, the Northern Canyon is equipped with a DP2 (dynamic positioning) system and is among the largest, most technologically advanced PSVs available in the industry. The vessel, which will be deployed initially in the North Sea, is quipped as a remotely operated vehicle vessel to perform subsea construction work globally. It has been awarded a three-year contract by Canyon-Offshore, Inc. Trico is scheduled to take delivery of a second 279-ft. PSV in September 2002. It also expects to take delivery of three new generation 155-ft.

Canyon Offshore Takes Delivery of Quest 3

Canyon Offshore has taken delivery of its third Quest electric work class ROV system. The Quest, depth rated to 3,050 msw, incorporates many new features and technology not previously found in work class ROVs. Increased efficiency, lower operating costs and greater reliability, have contributed to the success of these new systems. This environmentally friendly ROV can perform tasks for a wide range of functions, including offshore oil exploration and production support, salvage, mapping, remote tool deployment and object recovery. As the launch customer for the Quest, Canyon received the first two systems last year, and both have been in high demand ever since.

Canyon Offshore Appoints Commercial Manager

Canyon Offshore-Asia Pacific, based in Singapore has announced the appointment of Jerry Rowbury to the position of Commercial Manager-Asia Pacific. Rowbury will be based out of Canyon Offshore’s Singapore facility and will be responsible for ROV sales, marketing, business development and commercial activities in the Asia-Pacific region. Rowbury is a Chartered Hydrographic Surveyor with more than 20 years industry experience. He is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and a member of the Royal Institute of Navigation and the Hydrographic Society.

Cal Dive International Buys Canyon Offshore

Cal Dive International has acquired 85 percent of outstanding Canyon Offshore shares, with the remaining 15 percent to be acquired over the next three years. The acquisition, which is subject to the customary Hart Scott Rodino filing, is expected to close before year-end. John S. Edwards, CEO of Canyon, said, "CDI was our first customer when Canyon began operations in early 1997 and we are extremely excited to be joining the CDI group of companies and expect to be a major contributor to their continuing success. In November, Canyon Offshore Inc., a subsidiary of Cal Dive International mobilized the M/V Northern Canyon with two 2,500-m rated Triton XLS systems on board, to support the Gunnison Spar installation for Kerr McGee. Canyon operated as a subcontractor to Cal Dive International, Inc. The vessel has since completed a number of SPAR installation tasks, including survey array installation, flowline and riser installation support, mooring hook up support, and specific ROV intervention tasks relating to the SPAR completion. The vessel performed well in rough, winter conditions, and all assigned tasks were completed on schedule. The Northern Canyon is a 280-foot (85m) DP II vessel with accommodations for 58 personnel…

Canyon ROV Rescues Manned Submersible

Canyon Offshore has successfully rescued a diver trapped in a manned submersible in 1800 ft. of water in the Gulf of Mexico. The submersible was attempting to perform intervention tasks on a client’s subsea well when the tool seized at the work site. The M/V Merlin, outfitted with a TRITON XL work class ROV, immediately deployed to the site to assist with the recovery. The ROV dove to 1800 ft., releasing the tool and the submersible approximately five minutes after reaching the immobilized unit. The manned submersible and its pilot, who had been trapped for approximately ten hours prior to being released, were safely recovered shortly thereafter.

Cal Dive Agrees to Acquire Robotics Company

Cal Dive International, Inc. announced that it has agreed to acquire 85 percent of Canyon Offshore, Inc., a supplier of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and robotics to the offshore construction and telecommunications industries. Cal Dive would purchase the remaining 15 percent at a price to be determined by Canyon's performance during the years 2002 through 2004. The purchase price from $66 million $74 million is four to five times expected Canyon EBITDA. Hart Scott Rodino filing, is expected to close before year-end. Helix Awarded Three-Year Vessel Contract

Helix Energy Solutions announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Canyon Offshore, Inc. has been awarded a $160m, three-year contract by an E & P operator in South East Asia, to provide the M/V Olympic Canyon DP II multipurpose vessel for offshore inspection, repair and maintenance operations. The Olympic Canyon is scheduled to commence work in April 2008 and will support client's numerous offshore projects. The vessel will be outfitted with two deepwater 150 hp Triton XLS work class ROV systems, a variety of intervention tooling and support equipment, and a 140 mT active heave compensated crane. Canyon has recently grown its fleet of chartered vessels with the addition of two new Norwegian built vessels the M/V Olympic Canyon and sister ship M/V Olympic Triton.

Gardline Geosciences & Canyon Offshore strategic alliance to provide deep-water seabed drilling service to offshore SI market.
