ESG Delivers M/V Jaden Pasentine

Eastern Shipbuilding Group has delivered of the M/V Jaden Pasentine (Hull 200). The 70th 90’x 32’x 10’ Inland Towboat built by Eastern for Florida Marine Transporters, LLC of Mandeville, LA. In 2018, Florida Marine Transporters, LLC signed four more additional towboats, bringing the total to seventy (70) vessels contracted over the last 14 years. ESG Delivers USCG Sub-M Towboat

Eastern Shipbuilding Group has delivered the M/V Brian Boudreaux (Hull 198). It is also the first new construction USCG Sub-M towboat for Florida Marine Transporters, LLC of Mandeville, LA.It was in early 2018, when Florida Marine Transporters, LLC signed four more additional towboats, bringing the total to seventy (70) vessels contracted over the last 14 years. The M/V Brian Boudreaux was constructed at Eastern’s Allanton Facility from a design furnished by Gilbert Associates, Inc. of Boston, MA.

Caterpillar to Power Stena Line's New RoPax Ferries

Caterpillar Marine has announced Cat power solutions have been selected to power four 3100 LM RoPax Ferries for Stena Line. Each ferry will be equipped with two MaK 12 M 43 C propulsion engines. “By combining a set of proven technologies Caterpillar’s solution will provide Stena Line the most fuel efficient ferries in the world and will set a new industry standard when it comes to operational performance, emissions and cost competitiveness, positioning Stena Line to support its customers in the next decades,” said Ulf Hannemann, cruise and ferry segment manager at Caterpillar Marine.

Harley Marine Selects Cat Power & Propulsion

Svitzer Chooses Cat Power for Harbor Tugboats

To power four new harbor tugboats under construction in Brazil, global towage and emergency response provider Svitzer turned to Caterpillar — purchasing eight Cat 3516C marine propulsion engines and eight C4.4 generator sets. Part of the Maersk Group, the world’s largest container shipping company, Svitzer operates a fleet of more than 430 vessels globally. Earlier in 2015, the company acquired a controlling stake in Brazilian harbor towage company Transmar Servicos Maritimos—now known as Svitzer Brazil. The new harbor tugs will join an existing fleet operating along the Brazilian coast. “Svitzer is a long-time Cat customer, with many vessels powered by Cat engines,” said Rodrigo Feria, marine sales manager for Sotreq, the Cat dealer that led sales efforts on the project.

Caterpillar to Power 16 Korean Patrol Boats

Caterpillar Marine has announced Cat power solutions have been selected to power 16 new build Patrol Boats for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). Each Patrol Boat will be equipped with two Cat C32 main propulsion diesel engines and two Cat C9 ship service diesel generators. The first Patrol Boats will be constructed at the Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) shipyard in Korea. Cat dealer Hae In led the Caterpillar efforts on the project and will continue to manage the delivery and subsequent service of the Cat solutions.

Paddle Wheel Riverboat for Sale

A 260-foot fully operational paddle wheel riverboat, recently used as a large casino, is available for sale by negotiation. Asset management company Stuart B. Millner & Associates (SBMA) said it is currently accepting offers for the vessel before making plans to sell it through an auction in March. Caterpillar to Equip 4 AHTS for Grupo CBO

Caterpillar Marine informed that its Cat® power and propulsion solutions have been selected to power four AHTS vessels for Grupo CBO, headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Each AHTS vessel will be equipped with 4 x 6 M 32 C propulsion engines rated at 3000 bkW and Cat Propulsion controllable pitch propellers. Additionally, Cat will again power the third PSV in a series for Grupo CBO with 4 x 3512C diesel electric propulsion (DEP) generator sets rated at 1700 ekW as well as 1x C18 for harbor/emergency power. The 180 ton bollard pull AHTS vessels will be designed by Hayvard Design and Solutions, using an adapted version of its 843 design.

Cat to Power Ferries for 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro

Caterpillar Marine and Cat Dealer Pon Power announced the first Cat 3512C marine generator sets with Dynamic Gas Blending (DGB) have been selected to power Assessoria Transporte Aquaviaro fast ferries for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A total of 28 Cat generator sets will be installed on seven aluminum-hull fast ferries, with 14x Cat 3512 generator sets and 14x Cat 9 generator sets providing prime and auxiliary power. Each 3512 generator set will provide 1,550 eKW at 60 Hz of rated power.

CAT 3500 D-F Gensets Power Rio Fast Ferries

Caterpillar Marine with Cat Dealer Pon Power are pleased to announce the first Cat 3512C marine generator sets with Dynamic Gas Blending (DGB) have been selected to power Assessoria Transporte Aquaviaro fast ferries for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A total of 28 Cat generator sets will be installed on 7 aluminum-hull fast ferries, with 14x Cat 3512 generator sets and 14x Cat 9 generator sets providing prime and auxiliary power. Each 3512 generator set will provide 1550 eKW @ 60 Hz of rated power. One ferry will be equipped with the new Cat marine dual fuel solution and powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The remaining six ferries are being constructed with the option to readily retrofit the engine room to include the Dynamic Gas Blending kits in the future.

The continued maturation of Offshore Service Vessel design is embodied in recent contracts and deliveries. Ulstein Verft subsea newbuild Island Performer was built for Island Offshore to be a flexible, RLWI/IMR vessel, destined to serve its first five years for FTO in the Gulf of Mexico. “The vessel is customized to suit the scope of work in the FTO contract, in which RLWI (Riser-less Light Well Intervention) and IMR (Inspection/Maintenance/Repair) are the main tasks. She is able to perform operations at depths down to 3,000m,” said Håvard Ulstein, Managing Director, Island Offshore.

Cat Power Solution for Teekay Offshore

Caterpillar Marine announced that Cat power and propulsion offerings have been selected to provide complete propulsion solutions for four ocean-going towing vessels designed by Ulstein Design and Solutions. Each vessel will have four 9 M 32 C propulsion engines, rated at 4,500 bkW at 600 rpm. Also onboard each vessel will be three Cat C32 auxiliary generator sets rated at 940 ekW at 1,800 rpm as well as one Cat C9 generator set to provide emergency power. All four vessels will be equipped with two AEM shaft generators rated at 3,150 ekW at 1,200 rpm.

Caterpillar Secures Complete Propulsion Systems Order

Caterpillar Marine announced that Cat power and propulsion solutions have been selected to provide an optimized tug package for a 55T ASD tug new build for Remolcadores Marracoi SL (REMARSL). Two Cat 3512C EPA Tier 2 propulsion engines have been selected to power the tug as well as 2x  MTA 523FP Azimuth thrusters. Each Cat 3512C marine propulsion engine will provide 2x1765 kw @1800 rpm of rated power. Auxiliary power will be delivered through 2 x Cat C9 engines. The vessel will be constructed at Freinaval shipyards in Spain. Cat dealer Finanzauto led Caterpillar efforts on the project. Completing the comprehensive Caterpillar efforts on the sale was Cat Financial, who was able to deliver a stellar financial package for the customer.

Caterpillar To Launch New CAT® CG137-8 Generator Set

Caterpillar Oil & Gas will unveil the new Cat CG137-8 natural gas generator set  at the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, North Dakota during the 2014 Williston Basin Petroleum Conference  now in progress from May 20 – 22nd. The new Cat CG137-8 generator set provides 282 ekW (352 kVA), 60 Hz @ 1800 rpm of rated power, offering customers an additional power node to complement existing Cat power solutions in land production applications. The CG137-8 generator set will now be available to order from the global Cat dealer network. “The CG137-8 generator  set power node is a great addition to the proven Cat G3306B (135 ekW) and CG137-12 (400 ekW) oilfield generator sets, Russ Goss, Caterpillar Oil & Gas  new product introduction project manager said.

Caterpillar Sponsors Ocean Shark Research

Caterpillar agree multi-year partnership with OCEARCH to help global research on sharks, key members of the ocean's ecological system. "Most people think sharks are invincible," said OCEARCH founder Chris Fischer . "But they are in real danger*. We must find a sustainable path forward because sharks play a crucial role in maintaining balance in the delicate oceanic ecosystem. Fischer's vessel, the MV OCEARCH, already relies on Cat® power in the water. The boat with its team of scientists and crew runs on two Cat engines and has three Cat generators on board that power an at-sea laboratory, custom-built hydraulic lift and 55,000-pound capacity research platform with the capability of handling 5,000-pound sharks.

Caterpillar Engines Developed for New Liftboat

Cat C280-16 generator sets with an increased power rating have been selected by Jurong Shipyard, to power West Rigel drill rig. The West Rigel is a semisubmersible drilling rig newbuild under construction for North Atlantic Drilling Limited, a subsidiary of Seadrill Limited. Eight C280-16 generator sets, each with rated power of 5,500 ekw (5,730 bkw @ 900 rpm), will be used as the main power for the semisubmersible rig, with two of the generator sets serving as emergency power as well. The C280 has a stellar reputation in the oil and gas industry as a trusted provider of power for decades. The new uprate provides a 12% increase in overall power.

Diesel Electric Propulsion – CAT Starts Brazil Genset Production

Caterpillar says their 3500C Diesel Electric Propulsion (DEP) generator sets have entered full production at the Piracicaba, Sao Paulo manufacturing facility, delivering on a commitment to offer superior Cat power solutions products to the burgeoning Brazilian offshore market. Within the past year, the company has achieved significant milestones in Brazil, most recently announcing the RBNA Classification Society Certification of the 3500C generator sets to meet local content regulations. “The demand for Cat power solutions in Brazil has paralleled the exponential growth in the Brazilian offshore market,” noted Gregg Macdonald, Brazil 3500 Program Manager. The 214,000 square-meter Piracicaba facility is Caterpillar’s second facility in Brazil and currently employs over 5,800 people.

Caterpillar introduces C175-16 U.S. This 60 Hz package — rated at 3000 to 3100 ekW for standby and mission-critical power, 2725 to 2825 ekW at prime power and 2500 to 2600 ekW at continuous power — offers fuel efficiency and lower emissions in a compact footprint. With the addition of the C175-16, Caterpillar offers the widest range of Tier 4 Interim-certified generator sets in the industry, ranging from 455 kW to 3100 kW. Five Cat Engines to Power World’s First LNG-Hybrid Barge

Caterpillar Marine announced the first shipment of Cat 3500 series marine gas engines from its Lafayette, Indiana manufacturing facility. Five Cat G3516 marine engines were selected to power the Becker Marine Systems subsidiary, Hybrid Port Energy, LNG-Hybrid Barge, the world’s first LNG-powered barge in the Port of Hamburg. The LNG-Hybrid barge will provide clean and efficient shore power to cold ironing cruise ships and serve as a backup power provider for the local Hamburg electric power and heat grid. The G3516 is a spark-ignited, gas engine specially designed to operate in commercial vessel applications. The solution is compliant with the strict Marine Classification Societies requirements, SOLAS and is certified by Bureau Veritas.
