Australia Ship Sim Center Opens

The Western Australian Minister for Ports, the Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLC opened the expanded facilities of HR Wallingford’s new Australia Ship Simulation Center.HR Wallingford has added two new purpose-built simulators to its center in Fremantle, bringing the total number of simulators that it owns and operates there to six. Simwave Simulator Center Opens in April

With a range of dignitaries in attendance, Simwave will officially open its 5,000-square-meter maritime training center in Barendrecht on April 19. The three hundred guests will take a look behind the scenes at the new location, which houses more than 50 simulators. The center has already been in use for some time now. The 'site acceptance test' was successfully completed on January 29th, in collaboration with the supplier of the simulators, the Norwegian company Kongsberg Digital.

YANMAR EVO//CENTER Opens in Georgia

National, state and local officials joined together with YANMAR America and its honored guests to officially open the YANMAR EVO//CENTER located at the corner of Highway 92 and Old Alabama Road in Acworth, Georgia. Situated on 50-plus acres of land in Cherokee County, the new 50,000 square foot facility opened on November 3, 2017 features six state-of-the-art product training labs with classroom and hands-on space, three classrooms, multiple meeting rooms, office space, a 250-seat auditorium, the EVO Commons dining area, concept lab, museum and outdoor product demonstration areas.

Maritime Safety Research Center Opens

The Maritime Safety Research Center (MSRC) is an industry-university partnership, involving Strathclyde's Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Marine Engineering, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCCL), and DNV GL. Coastal Watch Center Opens in Philippines

A new National Coast Watch Center (NCWC) for maritime security has opened in the Republic of the Philippines. Raytheon Company designed, implemented and equipped the center and its coastal system using the company's integrated border security solutions. The NCWC is the hub of the Philippines' National Coast Watch System for maritime security. The system improves the ability of the country's maritime forces to detect, prevent and deter threats and security risks across its territorial waters. The Raytheon team also provided communication and surveillance solutions for the islands of Palawan and Cebu with associated training and sustainment for the Filipino operators.

Green-ship Certification Center Opens in Korea

Announced in 2012 as the world’s first green-ship equipment certification center, The Korean Register – an IACS member class society, and founding partner in the project –announced that the center has opened for business earlier this month in Gunsan, Jeonbuk, Korea. Construction and Drilling Training Center Opens

TQ Construction and Drilling Training Center Inaugurated in Dammam. Leading representatives from Saudi’s oil and gas sector gathered in Dammam on Thursday, February 27, to launch the newest Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic (SPSP), the Construction and Drilling Training Center. His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz attended the Inauguration, along with His Excellency, Eng. Ali Ibrahim Al-Naimi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; Dr Ali Nasir Al-Ghofais, Governor of TVTC and His Excellency Mr Khalid Al-Falih, President and CEO of Saudi Aramco. Killer Wave Research Center Opens in Russia

The 'All-Russian Killer Waves Research Center' opens in the country's far eastern city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The center will focus on research of extreme waves in the ocean and work on prediction of the dangerous phenomenon and development of protective measures. Killer waves, also known as "rogue waves" or "freak waves," are relatively large and spontaneous ocean surface waves that occur far at sea, which could even be a threat to large cargo ships, ocean liners and oil platforms. New State-of-the-Art Shipbuilding Production Center Opens For Business In Ketchikan, Alaska. Alaska Ship & Drydock Already at Work on the First Vessel to be Completed in the Facility, a 136’ Longliner. The outlook for building new ships at Alaska Ship & Drydock (ASD), a Vigor Industrial company, just got a lot brighter, warmer, and drier with the opening of the Ketchikan Shipyard’s state-of-the-art assembly hall designed to build ships up to 500 feet in length. The assembly hall is 70,000 square feet with an adjacent 5-story production center to minimize material flow and maximize efficiency.

Maritime Technology Information Center Opens

It may lack a hull and a propeller, but the newly built Maritime Technology Information Center is destined to play an important role in the fleet’s future, said Tom Warring, center spokesman. The maritime technology information center is located on a campus filled with unique Navy research and design facilities, including the David Taylor Model Basin where artificial waves test the ocean-going stability of ship designs. Built for $12 million, the 50,000-square-foot conference center features state-of-the-art audio-visual technology. Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy Training Center Opens in India

Wärtsilä opened a Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy (WLSA) training center at its existing technology school in Khopoli, India. This is the fourth WLSA regional centre of Wärtsilä for global coverage of training and competence management services to ship owners and power plant owners. The other three are in Turku, Finland which opened in January 2006; in Subic Bay, the Philippines, and in Fort Lauderdale, USA. These training centres form the spine in the global network of other locations at which WLSA also provides training services. The WLSA scope of service extends from the basic off-the-shelf, standard product courses to a full range of courses for power plants, ship power and propulsion equipment in connection with competency qualifications.

Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy has opened the doors of a new training center in Subic Bay in the Philippines on the 30 November 30. The new training center is one in a series of three training centers built for global coverage of training and competence management services in the marine and power plant industries.
