Center Opens

Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy Training Center Opens in India

Wärtsilä opened a Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy (WLSA) training center at its existing technology school in Khopoli, India. This is the fourth WLSA regional centre of Wärtsilä for global coverage of training and competence management services to ship owners and power plant owners. The other three are in Turku, Finland which opened in January 2006; in Subic Bay, the Philippines, and in Fort Lauderdale, USA. These training centres form the spine in the global network of other locations at which WLSA also provides training services. The WLSA scope of service extends from the basic off-the-shelf, standard product courses to a full range of courses for power plants, ship power and propulsion equipment in connection with competency qualifications. The first courses at the new training centre will commence in December 2006. The trainees will be able to take advantage of the Khopoli factory's facilities for reconditioning, machining, assembly, etc., for thorough practical training. In addition to well-equipped classrooms, there are workshops for practical training also on engines, propulsion equipment, marine electrical equipment, engine room ancillary equipment and control systems.


ROV Training Graduates Secure Employment

Half of ROV class find employment within a week of completing training.   A subsea training centre has reported an increase in employment of their students, with 50% of one class being employed within a week of graduating. The Underwater Center, Fort William saw half of a recent ROV class employed by leading providers of subsea services to the oil and gas industry, DOF Subsea, following the company’s attendance at an open day at the Center


Vacon Opens Service Center in the Netherlands

The AC drives manufacturer Vacon opens a new high-power service center in Gorinchem, the Netherlands, on September 13. Rolls-Royce Opens Poland Facility

Rolls-Royce opened a new Marine Service Center today in the Port of Gdynia, Poland. The opening marks the latest stage in the development of a global Marine Service Center network, which provides 24-hour access to Rolls-Royce skills and expertise to customers in 35 countries. The Gdynia Marine Service Centre will employ around 80 people, 30 on site and up to 50 mobile service engineers. In addition to servicing and maintenance, the facility will lead marketing


Rolls-Royce Training Center Opens in Brazil

To better support marine customers in South America, Rolls-Royce has opened a new training center in Brazil, to cater for customers operating the large number of vessels with Rolls-Royce systems that work in country’s deep water oil and gas fields. The center is located at the existing Rolls-Royce Marine Services site in Niteroi, just outside of Rio de Janeiro. It will provide a wide range of training programs

NI Validates Singapore DP

The London headquartered, Dynamic Positioning Center in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Academy announced the validation of the newly opened dynamic positioning (DP) training school in Singapore by the Nautical Institute (NI), the professional association for qualified mariners. The Singapore Dynamic Positioning Center located adjacent to Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, opened it’s doors to students wishing to train as DP Operators in March following the signing of a co-operation


Acteon Opens Singapore Service Center

A custom-built service center at the new Offshore Marine Center in the Tuas industrial area of Singapore will boost Acteon operations and improve its customer service in Southeast Asia. Due to open in July 2013, the new $11 million, 10,000-m2 Acteon Singapore Operations Center will support the offshore operations of Acteon companies across the region. It will be the first purpose-built Acteon center to service multiple operating companies


Brennan Opens Houston Distribution Center

Brennan Industries, Inc., an international supplier of hydraulic fittings and adapters, expanded its distribution capabilities in Texas with the addition of a distribution center in the Houston area. SUNY Maritime Opens Bouchard Tug & Barge Simulation Center

The Bouchard Transportation Company, Inc. and the State University of New York Maritime College (SUNY Maritime) today held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the Bouchard Tug & Barge Simulation Center. Kongsberg Maritime Launches DP Training Course

Kongsberg Maritime has reported an increase in the number of delegates partaking in its training courses. From 2013 to 2014, delegates rose by 26%; there was also a 36% increase in courses delivered from its training center in Westhill, Aberdeen.

Fisherman Medevaced near Cape Cod
