Maersk Line Wins Best Global Shipping Line

Maersk Line was named Best Global Shipping Line at the 21st Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCAs) ceremony held in Macau, April 26, 2007. In addition, Maersk Line was awarded 'Best Shipping Line Asia-Europe' and 'Best Shipping Line Transpacific'. Held once a year, the AFSCAs are widely recognised by the Asian logistics and shipping industry. Presented by the publication Cargonews Asia, the awardees are selected by readers, who vote for their favourite companies in the different categories.


Kuwait Oil Tanker Co. Aims for 30 Ship Fleet

Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) has put into service a new VLCC and named another as part of a strategy aimed at increasing its tankship fleet to 30 by the end of 2014, reports the Kuwait News Agency. KOTC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah inaugurated the enormous crude carrier, Al-Fintas, during an official ceremony held at the main compound of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company (DSME) in South Korea.

DP World, UAE Region has been named Shipping Port of the Year for the third time at the prestigious annual Supply Chain and Transport Awards 2010 (SCATA). The award was presented to DP World, UAE Region, at a gala ceremony held at the Grosvenor House on Wednesday, June 2. The event was attended by several hundred supply chain industry leaders. China Warships Patrol Far Off Southern Island

China Navy's  Nanhai Fleet flotilla is patrolling the Zengmu Reef, the southernmost part [of what it considers to be] the country's territory, and those on board the 3 ships took a ceremonial oath to safeguard sovereignty, reports Xinhua. The Zengmu Reef is a key maritime traffic juncture as well as a strategic spot. The Chinese navy patrols the area, about 50 miles off the coast of Malaysia on a regular basis

Aker Solutions Establishes New Base in Vietnam

Aker Solutions opened a new operation center in .  The new operation center, which is located within state-owned base of Petroleum Technical Services Corp (PTSC), will provide strategic and effective support services for Aker Solutions' onshore and offshore oil and gas customers in the country. Evergreen Extends Lease at Port of Kaohsiung

Evergreen Marine Corp (Taiwan) Ltd, which currently operates two large container terminals in the Port of Kaohsiung, has extended its lease on the newer facility at Container Terminal No 5 for a further 11 years and one month. The lease extension contract, which covers the period from December 1, 2007 to December 31, 2018, was signed by President Jack Yen and by Ming-Hui Shieh, Director-General of the Kaohsiung Harbour Bureau at a ceremony held in Kaohsiung and attended by Government


Cutter Commissioned in RI

The Coast Guard Cutter Tiger Shark, an 87-ft. coastal patrol boat, was commissioned by Rear Adm. David Pekoske, Coast Guard First District commander, in a ceremony held at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, R.I., today. Key attendees included U.S. Congressman Jim Langevin, representative for the Second District of Rhode Island, who delivered the keynote address, the Congressman's mother June Barrett Langevin, was the cutter's sponsor, and a representative of Bollinger Shipyard Inc.


DNV Recognizes Evergreen's Quality Management System

Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) was yesterday awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certificate by certification company Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in a ceremony held at the Evergreen building in Taipei. Hyproc Shipping Chooses AMOS2

During a formal ceremony held at the local Sheraton Hotel in Oran, Algeria on the 9th of September, Giampiero Soncini and Stefano Succi have signed a contract with Hyproc, a branch of the Algerian oil and gas company Sonatrach, the 12th largest oil and gas company in the world. The project (called HYceo) includes the delivery of AMOS software for the Hyproc fleet of LNG carriers, consultancy and bespoke software development, and an extended personnel training program

Third Austal-built LCS Delivered to the US Navy

 Shipbuilder Austal reports it has delivered the third littoral combat ship (LCS) built at its Mobile, Ala. shipyard to the U.S. Navy on August 11. This milestone marks the first LCS ship built by Austal as the prime contractor as part of a 10-ship, $3.5 billion block-buy contract.
