Cruise Ship Lists, Passengers Injured

The Crown Princess, Princess Cruises’ 947-ft. vessel that was launched in June, listed heavily yesterday after leaving Port Canaveral, injuring several passengers. CNN reported that at least 93 passengers, 16 of them seriously, according to the Cape Canaveral Fire Department. Before reentering the port, reports said that the Port Canaveral captain issued an order to the ship to stay offshore until inspectors determined if the vessel was safe to enter the port. The Coast Guard said all passengers and crew were accounted for. Though the cause of the list has yet to be determined, Princess Cruises is “investigating the cause of the ship's sudden list. The cruiseline terminated the cruise in Port Canaveral, and made arrangements for passengers to return home.

New Cruiseline Opens Offices in Seattle

The Majestic America Line, specializing in river and coastal cruising, has opened offices in Seattle. The newly formed line is operated by Ambassadors Cruise Group LLC, a subsidiary of Ambassadors International Inc. of Newport Beach, Calif. Majestic will have a staff of roughly 800, though only about 50 of them will be based in the line's headquarters at Fourth Avenue and Blanchard Street, company officials said.. The group was formed by merging Portland-based America West Steamboat Co., which was acquired in January, and New Orleans' Delta Queen Co., bought in April. It is expected to provide 75 percent of the annual revenue for Ambassadors International, which also operates a travel-and-events division and a marine-services division.

Crystal Cruises Announces 2007 Fuel Surcharge

Crystal Cruises has announced that, due to the continual rising cost of fuel, and the impact on Crystal Cruises’ daily operations, effective July 17, 2006, the cruiseline will institute a fuel surcharge of $5.00 per person, per day on all 2007 voyages. The cruiseline will protect any 2007 bookings that are made and paid prior to July 17, 2006, at the current fare, without the fuel surcharge. There will be no change to the current fuel surcharge of $4.00 per person, per day that is currently in effect for all 2006 voyages.
