Capt. Harry Delivered to Wilmington Tug

On December 19, Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc., of East Boothbay, Maine delivered Capt. Harry, a 4200 hp Z Drive tug to Wilmington Tug of Wilmington, Del. Designed by Robert Allan Ltd., this ASD 25/55 Class Tug measure 80 x 32 ft. It will be used primarily for ship docking; however, and extended keel will allow for operation as an escort tug in the indirect mode. Wilmington Tug operates five tugs, and in 1977 became the first operator in North America to operate a Z Drive Tug. Wilmington Tug’s newest vessel is the ninth Z Drive Tug built by Washburn & Doughty since the Fort Bragg was constructed for Cape Fear Towing in 1998. Two Detroit Diesel model 12V4000 main engines rated at 2100 hp at 1800 RPM power the vessel. The engines drive modular Ulstein Aquamaster 1350 HZ Drives that are removable through soft patches in the aft deck. The main engines are keel cooled with Fernstrum grid-coolers. The vessel has a 20,000-gallon fuel oil capacity, a 250-gallon lube oil capacity and 1,200 gallon fresh water capacity.

ESG to Build Four RA Tugboats

Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) said that Suderman & Young Towing Company & Bay Houston Towing Company have placed orders for a total of four new Robert Allan, LTD. (RAL) Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs at Eastern’s Panama City, Florida facilities. ESG added that G & H Towing Company will provide the onsite representation for both owners as their agent during the engineering, construction and delivery phases of these contracts.

CMS Fleet Strongest in Region

Crowley Marine Services' Southern California fleet recently confirmed its strength by demonstrating ABS certified bollard pull test measurements of more than 100,000 lbs. for every tug in the region. The CMS is fleet is the highest hp and highest bollard pull fleet of tugs in the Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors. Moran Commissions 10th Z-Drive Tug

Moran Towing has commissioned Diane Moran, its 10th Z-drive tugboat, which was recently christened in a ceremony in New York Harbor, will be used in harbor services. Currently, Moran's other Z-drive tugs are used by the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command in Norfolk, Va., and for harbor services in the port of Charleston, S.C. Washburn & Doughty Wins Tug Contract

Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. signed a contract to build a 92 x 32-ft. Z-Drive Tug for the Providence Steamboat Company.
