Austal USA Lays Keel for USNS Billy Frank, Jr.

Mobile, Ala. shipbuilder Austal USA held a keel laying ceremony for USNS Billy Frank, Jr., marking the official start of construction on the U.S. Navy’s eleventh Towing, Salvage and Rescue Ship (T-ATS 11).Ship sponsor Peggen Frank and her husband, William Frank III, authenticated the keel by welding their initials into a keel plate that will be welded to the hull of the ship. They were assisted by Brandon Auld, a four-year Austal USA veteran A-class structural fitter.Local community leaders

Royal Canadian Navy to Use MIRRAS System

The developer of augmented and mixed reality technology Kognitiv Spark will be providing the Royal Canadian Navy with the opportunity to test drive a Mixed Reality Remote Assistant Support (MIRRAS) system, as part of a project that aims to improve maintenance and repairs aboard active naval vessels.The project aims to validate technology adopted from Kognitiv Spark, whose software is designed for use with the Microsoft HoloLens.The software leverages Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence to improve efficiencies with ship operations including repairs, maintenance and knowledge transfer.This system can be used by RCN Marine Technicians and Weapons Engineering Technicians

Damen Shipyards Galati Welders Scoop Awards

Welders from Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania recently took part in the 2018 Arc Cup International Welding Competition in ZhuZhou, China. At the event, the Galati welders excelled, scooping a number of prestigious awards. Over 380 participants from all over the world took part in the competition. The Damen team consisted of Emanuel Andrei Broasca and Petrica Ghibergiu from Hull Division I, Petrisor Goga and Gabriel Codreanu from Piping Facility, Daniel Pintilie and Vasile Talmaciov from Hull Division IA, Alexandru Chisar and Marius Daniel Calmuc (head of the team) from the Welding Laboratory. All of the competitors had previously followed a training programme at the Damen Shipyards Galati Training Centre under the guidance of their foremen, Daniel Rarinca and Florin Angheluta.

“K” Line Group Holds Environmental Awards 2018 Ceremony

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line), one of the largest Japanese transportation companies, held the Award Ceremony for “K” Line Group Environmental Awards 2018 on June 5, 2018. ‘MOL Wins "Merit at Environmental Communication Awards"

Mitsui O.S.K. GAC’s Meena Wins IMC Golden Shield Award

The International Maritime Club presented Meena Mathews, GAC’s Regional P&I Manager for the Middle East, with its Excellence in Marine Claims Management accolade at the IMC Excellence Awards ceremony at the Ocean Blue in Sharjah, UAE, this week. Mathews was nominated by the Club’s committee of industry specialists for her work in protection and indemnity and insurance over the last year. She received her award from The Dubai Council for Marine & Maritime Industries (DCMMI) Chairman, H.E Khamis Juma Buamim. “Within GAC, we have long known what a valuable colleague and consumate professional Meena is. Engine Monitoring Unit Wins NMEA Award

A device from multi-award winning NMEA specialists, Actisense, has been recognized with an award from the National Marine Electronics Association. Actisense has received an award from the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) in recognition of their popular EMU-1 (Engine Monitoring Unit). Winning the 2015 Product of Excellence Award, the accolade was presented to Actisense at METS 2015 in November, the world’s largest marine equipment trade show. The Actisense EMU-1 is a specialized analogue to NMEA 2000 Gateway which converts data from analogue engine senders into NMEA 2000.

NMEA Names Furuno ‘Best Radar’ for 40th Year

BMT Reports Strong Performance for 2014

Drydocks World, Maritime World Win Excellence Awards

Drydocks World and Maritime World have won the Excellence Award given by the International Maritime Club at the Golden Bells Awards 2015 - Middle East. USS Mount Whitney Wins Golden Anchor Award for Retention

The crew of the U.S. 6th Fleet command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20), painted the ship’s anchor gold March 19, 2015, after being awarded the Retention Excellence Award, for fiscal year 2014. Throughout the year, Mount Whitney maintained an overall retention rate of 88.2 percent, and reenlisted a total of 15 Sailors throughout the year, which earned them the honor of receiving the Golden Anchor Award. The golden anchor is presented annually to commands that meet or exceed annual retention goals for each reenlistment zone, maintain an attrition rate for first term Sailors below 6.2 percent, and are named to two or more quarterly retention honor rolls during the fiscal year. Ships that receive the award are authorized to paint their anchors gold.

DNV GL “Modification Excellence Award” for Schiffahrt

Classification society DNV GL recognised that E.R. Schiffahrt has retrofitted seven ultra large container vessels to meet the highest energy efficiency standards and improve its cargo capacity through the DNV GL Modification Excellence Award. Jörg Lampe, Senior Project Engineer Risk & Safety and Systems Engineering at DNV GL, presented the award to Jürgen Kudritzki, Technical Director at E.R. Schiffahrt, in Hamburg. The German shipping company is the first to receive this award. “E.R. Schiffahrt has made a sustained and intensive commitment to increasing the efficiency of its operations. Our analysis shows these ships use 15 per cent less energy – resulting in annual savings of approximately 3.8 Million USD”, said Jörg Lampe. E.R.

BHP Billiton Employees Awarded for Sustainability Initiatives

BHP Billiton announced the recipients of the Company’s Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) Awards for its employees at a ceremony in Melbourne. Mississippi Hosts Fourth Annual National SeaPerch Challenge

108 teams of 451 students from 19 states, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as a team from New Zealand  competed in the Fourth National SeaPerch Challenge

The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS, and the Mississippi Regional SeaPerch Committee in mid-May hosted the Fourth National SeaPerch Challenge on the campus of Southern Miss. It was here that 108 teams of 451 middle and high school students – students from 19 states, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and for a first time ever, and international team from New Zealand – convened at the University’s Payne Center and Johnson Natatorium for a weekend of competition and fun.

Industry leadership in producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) earned Exxon Mobil Corporation an Excellence Award today at the World Petroleum Congress in Moscow.
