Port Awards Environmental Excellence Award

The Port of Los Angeles, along with the California Air Resources Board and the South Coast Air Quality Management District, presented today its first-ever Environmental Excellence Award to Evergreen America Corporation. The award recognizes the environmental stewardship of Port of Los Angeles customers. Port Chief Operating Officer Bruce Seaton presented the Environmental Excellence Award to Captain Hwang and Jason Hsu of Evergreen America. Evergreen has shown their commitment to reducing air emissions with several programs including being the most compliant company with the Port’s Vessel Reduction Program; being the first terminal operator in the U.S. to use alternative fuel in their terminal operations equipment; voluntarily signed the Port’s Letter of Intent to use low sulfphur fuels in the electrical generators on board their vessels while berthing at the Port of Los Angeles; and Evergreen America has implemented an aggressive ballast water exchange program and has achieved 100 percent compliance with that program for the past three months.


Pearl Harbor Shipyard Wins Navy Safety Award

Winter announced Aug. 19 that Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard won the Department of the Navy's Fiscal Year 2008 Safety Excellence Award. This is the second consecutive year the shipyard earned the DON Safety Excellence Award. In 2007, the shipyard was recognized for achieving elite "Star" status under the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Programs


Foss Hybrid Tug in Construction in Rainier

C-Map Wins NMEA Product Excellence Award

C-MAP won the National Marine Electronics Association Award for best vector charts for the third straight year. MOL Establishes Shipping Agency in Panama

MOL (America) Inc. will establish a new shipping agency in Panama to handle all commercial activities for MOL’s container division, effective May 1, 2003. The new company will be named MOL (Panama) Inc. Additionally, Boyd Steamship Corporation will handle Canal transits for MOL’s container division, allowing the two companies to Julio De La Lastra has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of MOL (Panama). MSC Announces Award Winners

Fleet replenishment oilers USNS Laramie and USNS Yukon, and rescue and salvage ship USNS Grasp are the winners of Military Sealift Command’s 2008 Capt. David M. Cook Food Service Excellence Awards. Shipping Training Gets U.K. Government Boost

NORSHIPCO Receives Award

United Defense Industries, Inc. announced the receipt of one of the U.S. Navy’s most prestigious awards, the Theater Surface Combatants Award for Excellence, at its shipyard in Norfolk, Va.
