Platform Shut Down after Leak

A small natural gas leak on the Statfjord A offshore platform shut down 160,000 barrels per day of Norwegian oil production on Feb. 14. The leak was quickly traced to a small hole in a water pipe, and that production was expected to resume within 24 hours. Any gas leak on an offshore platform can lead to catastrophic explosions and fires if ignited. The leak shut down the 30,000 barrel per day Statfjord A platform as well as the linked 130,000 barrels per day Snorre A platform. The majority of the 244 crew aboard Statfjord A took to their lifeboats as a precaution, and remained there for about two hours until the situation was clarified. There was no need to evacuate. Offshore Rig Gas Leak Kills Two

Two Brazilian maintenance workers died as a result of a toxic gas leak at an offshore oil rig operated by the state oil firm Petrobras. "The workers died when doing maintenance work on a drainage tank at the B-37 platform on the Marlim block in the Campos basin on Wednesday evening," said a Petrobras spokesman, adding that the workers were employees of Ultratec engineering firm. Natural Gas Leak on Supply Vessel in Gulf

Houma Incident Command received a report of an incident that occurred at about 9:25 a.m. Friday, June 11, involving a supply vessel that was mooring to a natural gas riser platform and pipeline in waters near Cocodrie, resulting in a release of natural gas. The Captain of the Port of Charleston issued a captain of the port order Nov. 2 on the 616-ft. container ship Star Fuji, preventing it from entering the port of Charleston until the leak on board is contained. Tanker Stopped After Leaking Oil

An oil tanker owned by Exxon Mobil subsidiary SeaRiver Maritime was ordered back to Valdez on May 22 after developing a leak, the operator of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline said. The SeaRiver Long Beach was about 10 minutes into its journey from the Valdez marine terminal when crew members from an escort vessel spotted an oil sheen in its wake, said Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. The U.S. Coast Guard ordered the tanker back to the terminal, where it was surrounded with boom and examined
