Carbon Fibre Megayacht Launched from Picchiotti Shipyard

Perini Navi Group launch a carbon fibre sloop designed by Nauta Yacht Design & built at the Picchiotti shipyard in La Spezia, Italy The Perini Navi Group,  designers and constructors of large sailing and motor yachts, announce that the 31,65m sloop Xnoi (pronounced per noi - “for us”) has been launched. This sailing yacht has a hull, superstructure, mast and boom and all are in carbon fibre. The launching ceremony was held recently at the Picchiotti shipyard in La Spezia.
 The construction of this new yacht – designed by Nauta Yacht Design’s Mario Pedol and Massimo Gino – meets the changing needs of today’s yachting market and expands the range of Perini Navi Group products. This project demonstrates the Perini Navi Group’s ability to successfully undertake construction projects in carbon fibre. 
 The Perini Navi Group’s core business is the construction of sailing yachts of 45 to 70m, a Racing Line and a Fast Cruising Line, special projects, and motor yachts from the Picchiotti Vitruvius® series. Xnoi will be available for charter this summer for up to 10 guests in 4 staterooms in the Mediterranean Sea.


CMA CGM Launches New Asia-W. Africa Service

CMA CGM Group launched a new direct service linking Asia to West Africa, effective August 3, 2011. Named WAX II, this new service will be operated in partnership with CSAV and will deploy 10 vessels from 2,500 TEUs up to 3,100 TEUs (5 CMA CGM vessels, 5 CSAV vessels). It will serve China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Cameroon.  This service will enable the Group to provide its customers with the following advantages:


Subsidiaries of ExxonMobil, Onassis Group, Goulandris Group Launch Double-hull Tanker

Exxon Mobil Corp. announced that M/T Kestrel, a new double-hull very large crude oil carrier (VLCC), was delivered for leasing to a Trust established by Marcare Shipping Co., a joint shipping venture among subsidiaries of ExxonMobil, the Onassis Group and Petros J. Goulandris Sons Group. Kestrel, the second of two sister vessels to be leased to the Marcare Trust, will be chartered by International Marine Transportation Limited (IMT), a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation based in the UK.


Vessels: Manitowoc Group Launches Another Cutter

The Manitowoc Company, Inc. launched the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Alder, the last ship in a series of 16 seagoing buoy tenders being built at Manitowoc's Marinette Marine subsidiary. This 225-ft, Juniper-class vessel is part of a series of contracts that were awarded to Marinette in 1993 and 1998. "Alder is a highly sophisticated cutter that will help the U.S. Coast Guard's homeland security efforts and other missions," said Dennis McCloskey, president of Manitowoc's Marine Group

Computer Game By Maersk to Spark Interest in Science

  This week the Maersk Group launches a computer game and teaching materials about oil exploration and oil production for Danish secondary schools, technical colleges and higher preparatory examination courses. The materials are available free of charge. More than 340,000 players have already tried the oil exploration game via www.QuestforOil.com. The game provides an insight into the global oil industry and the various elements of oil exploration


Mitsubishi Launches Hatsu Smile

On February 4, 2006, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Kobe shipyard launched Hatsu Smile, the fourth in a series of ten 7024TEU S-type container vessels that the shipbuilder is constructing for the Evergreen Group. Like the first three ships in the series, Hatsu Smile will be operated by London-headquartered Hatsu Marine Ltd. Hatsu Smile was named by Mr Chang Kuo-Cheng (K C Chang), Vice Group Chairman of Evergreen Group and Chairman of Evergreen Marine Corp


Cargo Ship Bound for U.K. Launched

A 53,000-tonne cargo ship built by Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin), was launched in the northern port city of Haiphong, on April 20. The ship, 190m long and 32.26m wide, is one of a series of fifteen due to be handed over to the Graig Investment Group, a UK-based international ship owner and shipping services provider. It was the second boat of its kind built by Vinashin’s affiliate, Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company and is also the largest being built in Vietnam under a

Bergen Group Cancels Rig Facilities Sale

The Bergen Group has decided to terminate a sales agreement that would see Semco Maritime acquire its rig service yard facilities at Hanøytangen. The real estate and the rig service activity at Hanøytangen will continue to be under the Bergen Group's ownership.

Freight rates for the shipping of containers from Asia to Northern Europe fell by 1.7 percent to a record low $343 per 20-foot container (TEU) in the week ended Thursday, a source with access to data from the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index told Reuters.
