Florida-based shipbuilder Eastern Shipbuilding Group announced the launch of the Escort/Rescue ZDrive Tug Ava M. Sovcomflot Group Launches SCF Far East Tall Ships Regatta 2018

Russia’s largest shipping company Sovcomflot Group (SCF Group) informed that the SCF Far East Tall Ships Regatta 2018 was officially launched. This marks the first time that Russia’s Far East will host an international tall ship race.The principal competition begins on 1 September with the race from Yeosu (South Korea) to Vladivostok, with over 20 vessels from Russia, Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia, and other countries competing to be the first to cover the distance of over 500 nautical miles. Industry Group Launches Marine Pipeline Alert System

The Coastal and Marine Operators (CAMO) group has announced it has successfully completed the first step in rolling out an initiative to protect the safety of mariners, the environment and hydrocarbon pipelines from being damaged. The CAMO group began transmitting Automatic Information System (AIS) safety messages directly to mariners in two charted pipeline corridors in Port Fourchon, significantly improving their situational awareness by providing immediate alerts for vessels in close proximity to submerged pipelines.

BV Group Launches Maritime Pilot Phase

Bureau Veritas Group Launched Maritime Pilot Phase for its Single Window for Foreign Trade in Togo. The ceremony took place in Lomé, under the patronage of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Faure GNASSINGBE and in the presence of Prime Minister, Kwesi AHOOMEY-ZUNU and the Minister of Trade and Private Sector Promotion, Bernadette LEGZIM-BALOUKI. The pilot phase allows the testing of the electronic platform for its technical and organizational dimensions and will permit the assessment of user acceptance. The arrival of ships at the port of Lomé will determine which players will be selected to participate in the Pilot Phase. All other players in the import trading community traffic will then be gradually merged into the scheme based upon the scalability over the next few weeks.

Computer Game By Maersk to Spark Interest in Science

This week the Maersk Group launches a computer game and teaching materials about oil exploration and oil production for Danish secondary schools, technical colleges and higher preparatory examination courses. The materials are available free of charge. More than 340,000 players have already tried the oil exploration game via www.QuestforOil.com. The game provides an insight into the global oil industry and the various elements of oil exploration, drilling and production through the oil fields in the North Sea and Qatar. Quest for Oil combines knowledge of geography, physics and earth science, which has attracted the attention of teachers. The Maersk Group now launches an educational package targeted at students and teachers in these particular subjects.

Craig Group Launches New PSV

Family owned shipping firm The Craig Group launched its latest Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), the Grampian Sceptre this week at the Balenciaga Shipyard in Northern Spain. The vessel was officially christened by Mrs. Frances Murray, wife of Alistair Murray, Logistics Team Lead at Talisman Sinopec Energy U.K. Ltd. Craig Group committed £50M to the construction of this vessel, and it’ sister vessel the Grampian Sovereign. The vessels are the largest ever built by Craig Group and both have secured long term contracts with Talisman Sinopec Energy U.K. Limited.

EFC Group Launches Next Phase of NE Scotland Expansion

EFC Group, a designer and manufacturer of instrumentation, monitoring, handling and control systems for the global oil and gas industry, announced the launch of a new manufacturing plant in Moray. The base in Enterprise Park, Forres marks the Group’s second phase of expansion in the area and a £100,000 investment. CMA CGM MARCO POLO

CMA CGM Group said that the CMA CGM Marco Polo, the world’s largest containership, began its first voyage on Wednesday, November 7, in Ningbo, China. The ship is a 16,000 TEU vessel, owned by CMA CGM, sailing under the UK flag. Built by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering) in South Korea, the ship displays exceptional dimensions at 396 x 54m, with a draft of 16m. CMA CGM Marco Polo is the first of a series of three 16,000 TEU vessels, will to be named after great explorers. The delivery of the two next vessels is expected in 2013.
