The largest waterjet so far in the Rolls-Royce Kamewa FF series has now been introduced. It extends the power range of these axial flow aluminium waterjets to 1,800 kW. “As a rough guide, a boat with a twin FF600 installation would have an all-up weight including equipment and fuel of about 60 tons for optimum performance,” said Tomas Renlund, director of the aluminium waterjet business. “But since we tailor the impeller to suit the application and can customise this type of jet to a considerable extent, each case should be considered individually.” In common with the other units at the smaller end of the Rolls-Royce waterjet range, the FF600 is constructed in aluminium, with the impeller, its housing, shafts and the operating cylinders for steering and reversing made of stainless steel. The inlet duct is fabricated from aluminium sheet to an optimised hydrodynamic profile and the mounting flanges are supplied in two versions; one for welding direct into an aluminium hull, the other for bolting into hulls made of other materials. Reverse and steering hydraulic cylinders are mounted inboard, and close attention has been paid to reducing risk to the environment. The actuating cylinders are anchored to a flange part way along the inlet duct next to the thrust bearing. This flange is designed so that it can be welded to, allowing the jet unit to be incorporated as part of an aft collision bulkhead structure.
Long discussed as the embodiment of next-generation marine technology, the Japanese "Techno-Superliner" (TSL) is now a reality. The 14,500 grt TSL will be built from aluminum and measure 460 x 98 ft. (140 x 29.8 m). To be built by Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding's Tamano works for delivery in 2005, the TSL will be propelled to a service speed of 38 knots via a pair of Rolls-Royce Kamewa VLW J235 waterjets, which will absorb 27 MW of power
BRP has been awarded a $10m contract from the United States Marine Corps (USMC) for its Evinrude multi-fuel engines (MFE). The Evinrude 55 MFE engines with an impeller equipped jet model pump will repower their fleet of F470 Zodiac boats / Combat Rubber Raiding Craft (CRRC) used during small craft operations. The strict procurement requirements of the USMC to secure non-gasoline burning outboard engines led directly to BRP
Safe guard your cooling system from costly damage with Livorsi’s Raw Water Flow System The Raw Water Flow system is a new patented system that indicates your engine’s water flow volume. This system warns you of a potential problem or danger that would otherwise not be indicated by a water pressure gauge alone, thus preventing cosmetic and structural damage to expensive exhaust headers, intercoolers and cooling systems. What is Water Flow?
Boatswain’s Locker announced that they are now the Master Plus Distributor for Teleflex Marine/Sierra products. This level of distributorship means that Boatswain's Locker will be able to provide an extensive inventory of products including Teleflex Marine, Sierra, and Shields Hose at extremely competitive prices. Two pairs of Hamilton HM651 jets with 25-in. impellers are being installed on two 170 x 30 ft. (51.8 x 9.1 m) hulls being built for the Candy fleet at Swift Ships Morgan City shipyard. Powered by 12-cylinder Cummins KTA38-M2 engines rated for jet application at 1,350-hp at 1,900-rpm, the jets were introduced at last year's Workboat Show in December. Auxiliary power will be provided by two Cummins 6B5. 9GM-powered 50 Kw gensets. Cargo capacity on the vessel's 105 x 24 ft. (32 x 7
The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Safety Alert stating that a chemical tanker recently suffered a tank explosion in the Gulf of Mexico near Galveston. After stripping a tank, the tankerman opened the tank top cover and an explosion ensued, injuring the tankerman and damaging the vessel. While the investigation is ongoing, the cause appears to be that the bearings in the cargo pump failed, allowing the shaft and impeller to shift and spin against the casing
Ultra Dynamics has announced the release a new waterjet model the UltraJet UJ410 -- with a 410 mm diameter impeller – which fits neatly into the middle of its UltraJet range of waterjets, providing more options between the UJ376 and UJ451. All components on the new model are plug-and-play and mounted on jet, including the oil cooler, oil pump, sensors and valves, and hydraulic steering and reverse cylinders, keeping installation for the boat builder to a minimum.
The recent award from the Japanese Defense Agency for its two newest Coastal Mine Sweepers secures Omnithruster’s position as one of the leading designers and manufacturers of advanced, low noise, shock hardened thrusters. The Omnithruster JT575AM, designed from the ground up for the Japanese Defense Agency, incorporates the patented Omniphaser noise masking system. This device uses some of the thruster’s own output to reintroduce a water/air mixture into the thruster inlet
After a slower year, the order book at All American Marine has rebounded. Together with charter and other boats, the firm has expanded their Ferndale, Wash. operations with a separate facility at South Bellingham. Currently under construction for March and April deliveries are four 32-ft. Bristol Bay style bow-pickers. One, for Greg Synner, will have a 12.5-ft. beam while two, for Al Agustus and Pat West will carry 14-ft. beams. The fourth boat, with a 13-ft
The new Dometic 7100 Series MasterFlush macerator toilet has won the 2013 IBEX Innovation Award for Mechanical Systems at this year’s International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.
Wärtsilä's axial waterjets power the Francisco, claimed to be the world's fastest high-speed ferry and the first fast ferry to utilize liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. The vessel has successfully passed its sea trials and is now ready to commence commercial operations.
Owners and shipyards come to the realization that alternative composition piping and pumps represent the way forward. You cannot put a vessel to work without pumps, valves and piping. Too often, product selection is left to the discretion of those who view these items as inconsequential decisions
