Anglo-Eastern Opts for Inmarsat Fleet Hotspot to Boost Crew Welfare

Ship management services provider Anglo-Eastern Ship Management has selected maritime communications provider Inmarsat to connect its crew.Anglo-Eastern, which uses Inmarsat's Fleet Xpress services, in 2019 became one of the first companies to sign up for Inmarsat’s crew internet solution, Fleet Hotspot, which, Inmarsat says, provides its seafarers "with reliable, high-speed connectivity and the  freedom to use their devices on board." According to Inmarsat, Anglo-Eastern doubled the free internet allowance for its crew in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on crew welfare.

BHGE Deploys VitalyX for Topaz

Fincantieri to Build Princess Cruise Ships

Princess Cruises and Fincantieri has announced the signing of the final contracts for the construction of two next-generation 175,000-ton cruise ships, which will be the largest ships built so far in Italy with deliveries scheduled in Monfalcone in late 2023 and in spring 2025.This announcement follows the initial signing of a memorandum of agreement between the two parties in July 2018.The vessels will each accommodate approximately 4,300 guests and will be based on a next-generation platform design, being the first Princess Cruises ships to be dual-fuel powered primarily by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Volvo Penta Wins Innovation Award for Inboard Joystick

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Boating Writers International (BWI) today presented Volvo Penta with a 2017 Innovation Award for the Volvo Penta Joystick for Inboard. Hull Vane on New Patrol Vessel for Port of Rotterdam Shipyard Kooiman recently started building a new 25-meter patrol vessel for the Rotterdam Port Authority. The vessel will be delivered in the summer of 2017. The order followed a public tender process in which several shipbuilders competed with their designs. The design incorporates several innovations to improve the efficiency. Public tender The principal focal points in the tender were the vessel’s complete life-cycle costs, a minimal amount of emissions and a minimum of wave formation.

DEME, Royal IHC win DPC Innovation Award

On November 10, DEME and Royal IHC have been awarded a DPC Innovation Award for the world’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHD). The DPC Innovation Awards consisted of 13 categories looking at the most innovative and forward-thinking projects that the dredging and port construction industry has to offer. DEME and Royal IHC won the award in the “Innovation in Dredger Design” category. Since a few years, DEME has embarked on a comprehensive fleet expansion programme and a number of vessels are currently being built to significantly increase efficiency, both in terms of productivity and environmental performance.

First LNG-powered Hopper Dredger Launched

The launch ceremony of DEME’s 3,500m3 LNG-powered trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) MINERVA took place on 3 December at Royal IHC's shipyard in Kinderdijk, The Netherlands. The official name giving and christening ceremony will take place in the spring of 2017 in Zeebrugge, Belgium. "The launch of this vessel is an important milestone for the dredging industry,” says IHC's Executive Director Shipbuilding, Arjan Klijnsoon. “IHC had already started to investigate the integration of LNG into dredging vessels in 2012, enabling us to understand the challenges of this green solution. This gave us a solid basis to work from when DEME started its tender process, and helped us to materialise DEME’s preliminary design for two LNG-powered TSHDs.
