JRC Says Its Wave Analysis Tool Helps Prevent Container Spills

Thousands of containers have been lost by ships in heavy weather conditions over recent months, impacting the ocean environment and adding a large extra cost expense for shipping companies.Among many factors leading to the problem is heavy rolling and pitching of the ship that causes containers to lose their stability and fall overboard. Marine electronics company JRC said its navigational radar JMR-7200/9200 includes a Wave Analysis function made available through a software upgrade.The JRC Radar Wave Analysis function is developed to measure wave height, direction and length.

Marco Shipyard: Rolling With The Changes

Over their lifetime, fishing vessels are arguably the most robustly constructed maritime structures around, due to their continuous operation in the most arduous of conditions. Marco Shipyard in Seattle — founded in 1953 — built its business and reputation in the fishing industry, producing boats for operation around the globe. In fact, Peter G. Third Tractor Tug Delivered to Harley

The newest tractor tug to come out of MARCO Shipyard Seattle is the 105-ft. Millennium Dawn, the third boat in its class designed and built for Harley Marine Services of Seattle, and the twelfth tractor tug from MARCO. It will join her sister ships operating in Long Beach, Calif., part of Harley’s West Coast and Alaska operations that in clued Olympic Tug & Barge, Millenium maritime, Pacific Coast Maritime, Public Service marine and Westoil Marine Services. Like her predecessors, the new tug is a powerful, multipurpose vessel, capable of providing ship assist, inland and ocean towing, and escort services. Her rugged design has evolved from MARCO’s first tractor tug, the Gyrfalcon, operated by Pacific Coast Maritime.

Bollinger Delivers Supply Boat to Seacor

Bollinger Shipyards Lockport, La., has delivered the Seacor Madison, the first of three 207-ft., 4,750 bhp supply boats to Seacor Marine, Inc., Houston, Tex. It will be followed by two others of Seacor's new President Class offshore support vessels (OSV), Seacor Washington and Seacor Jefferson. The boats are part of Bollinger's new 220 Class OSVs that are designed to provide more cargo capacities, more versatility, more options and lower operating costs than larger vessels. Classed by ABS, Seacor Madison measures 207 x 53 x 19 ft. (63 x 16.1 x 5.7 m), has a light draft of 6.5 ft. (1.9 m), and a loaded draft of 16.2 ft. (4.9 m).
