SeaStreak Launches New High-Speed Catamaran

SeaStreak America, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sea Containers Limited, added another catamaran ferry to its service in the New York market with the May 3, 2001 launch of the 140-ft. (42.6 m) commuter and leisure vessel M/V SeaStreak New York. The 400-passenger vessel will provide service between New York City and New Jersey. SeaStreak New York joins a SeaStreak fleet of two 300-passenger catamarans already providing commuter service between Atlantic Highlands and Highlands, N.J., and Manhattan, and the 149-passenger SeaStreak Brooklyn, which offers service between Brooklyn and Manhattan. The state-of-the-art, double-hulled catamaran, built by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding in Somerset, Mass., features three decks including wind-protected outdoor space, innovative measures to prevent icing of decks and ramps, automatic doors, a bar area, and three restrooms. Traveling at a service speed of 38 knots, SeaStreak New York is expected to offer 35-minute passage from New Jersey to points in Manhattan for both business commuting and sightseeing.


Bisso Launches New Tug

Bisso Marine used the 700 ton capacity D/B Cappy Bisso to lift a new 635 ton tug Z-Drive Tractor tug. The draft of the tug was too deep to be launched in Houma, LA at the Main Iron Works shipyard, so the tug was lifted on to a materials barge where it was placed into support cribbing then delivered via the Intracoastal Waterway to New Orleans, LA. Once in New Orleans, LA, the D/B Cappy Bisso would again lift the tug from the deck of the materials barge and place it into the Mississippi

Crowley to Launch New Service

Crowley Liner Services will launch a new, dedicated, direct, weekly RoRo service between Port Everglades, Fla., and Kingston, Jamaica, beginning January 7, 2000. COSCO Launches New Shipping Service

China Ocean Shipping Corporation (COSCO) Container Lines has launched a weekly shipping service from Shanghai to Japan and the U.S. east coast. Operated jointly by COSCO, Japan's Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. and Yang Ming Lines of Taiwan, the service will shorten travel time between Hong Kong and New York from 33 days to 26 days and went into operation on Monday, officials said. Dubai Drydocks to Unveil $60M Project

According to reports, Dubai Drydocks will launch its $60 million newbuilding panel line and steel structure assembly facility in July. The yard, whose current shipbuilding facility has a monthly turnover of 2,800 tonnes of steel, plans turning over similar volumes of steel per month for the newbuilding.
