Ingalls Selects Joiner Team For AMCV Ships

Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of Litton Ship Systems has selected Hopeman Brothers Marine Interiors and Jamestown Metal as the joiner subcontractors for American Classic Voyages' (AMCV's) United States Lines newbuilds. The shared subcontract is valued at more than $200 million. The two companies, who in the past have been head-to-head competitors have teamed up to construct all cabins, as well as all public spaces onboard each of the 72,000-grt, 1,900-passenger vessels, which are currently being constructed at Litton's Pascagoula, Miss. yard. The cruise vessels, which are the first to be built on U.S. soil in more than 40 years, will offer excursions to the U.S. Hawaiian Islands beginning in 2003. With fabrication on the first U.S. Lines vessel commencing at Ingalls on July 3, 2000, Hopeman Brothers and Jamestown Metal will be constructing approximately 35 cabins per week at peak production.


NCL Awards Maintenance Contract to MAN

MAN Diesel & Turbo gets 4-year $30 million contract from US-based Norwegian Cruise Line MAN Diesel & Turbo has received an order from the US-based cruise liner company Norwegian Cruise Line for the maintenance of the engines on nine of the fleet’s cruise liners.The service agreement runs for four years and is being handled by the MAN PrimeServ service office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. Besides the maintenance work it also covers the supply of spare parts.

Evergreen Group Orders Ten 8000 TEU vessels

Evergreen Group has placed orders with Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd in Taipei for ten 8,000-TEU L-class environmentally advanced container vessels. The first vessel is due for delivery in 2012 and will join Evergreen Line global containership fleet. Six of the new vessels will be built for Evergreen Marine Corporation and four for Evergreen International S.A. (Panama). The ships are being built at a cost of $103m each


Horizon Line to Launch U.S. Inland Express Service

Horizon Lines, Inc. (NYSE: HRZ), aleading U.S. domestic ocean shipping and integrated logistics company, announced it will launch express intermodal container service to key inland U.S. cities when it begins the new Five Star Express (FSX) trans-Pacific liner service in December. The maiden FSX voyage is scheduled to depart Ningbo, China, on December 14, 2010, Shanghai on December 15, and arrive in Los Angeles on December 26


Stena Line Extends Contract with MCP

Maritime Communications Partner (MCP) has signed an extended contract to deliver wireless communication services to Stena Line’s European ferry operations.   MCP, a  onboard communications provider, has announced  the extension of its partnership with Stena Line. Horizon Lines Names Raymond As Chairman

Holland America Line Opens Rotterdam Office
