McAllister Towing Orders New Tug Pair from Eastern
McAllister Towing and Transportation Co. has ordered two new 5,000 hp tugs scheduled for delivery this year. The first vessel, which will be named Janet M. McAllister, is scheduled for a spring delivery; the second vessel, Vicki M. McAllister, will hit the water this summer. Designed by Jensen Maritime Consultants of Seattle, Wash., the tugs are being built to ABS classification standards by Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Panama City, Fla. Measuring 98 ft. (29.8 m), each will be equipped with two EMD engines and two Schottel drives - designed to produce a bollard pull up to 60 tons. Fire pump equipment will be Detroit Diesel PTO at 1,800 rpm to Goulds 3410 eight by 10 in. pump, producing 3,000 gpm delivered to two fire monitors, each with 1,500 gallons AAAF Foam Capacity. Each tug will also be equipped with two NETEC winches holding 475 in. of 10 in. circumference line.

McAllister to Tow Intrepid

McAllister Aids Relief Effort
On the morning of September 11, as the second tower of the World Trade Center was hit by terrorists, McAllister Towing and Transportation Company's corporate headquarters, located by the Battery in lower Manhattan, was evacuated. All employees were evacuated safely, and the building went undamaged. McAllister's New York fleet was at work in the New York Harbor. Tank Barge Successfully Refloated
A tank barge that ran aground outside the channel in Raritan Bay near Wards Point Bend successfully re-floated. Reinauer Transportation conducted lightering operations throughout the night, and with the rising tide in the morning they were able to free the grounded vessel. The barge George Morris was being towed out to sea by the tug Rowan M. McAllister carrying 50,000 barrels of Ethanol aboard when it ran aground around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Tug Bruce McAllister Has Engine Room Fire
Tug Bruce McAllister experienced an engine room fire one half mile south of the Kingston Bridge on the Hudson River. USCG Activities New York fought the fire and monitored the river for pollution. Once the fire was extinguished, the remaining fuel, oil, and water were removed and the tug refloated. A contractor was hired to conduct the cleanup and salvage.
