HHI Names Two Newbuilding VLCC's

Hyundai Heavy Greets New Year with the Simultaneous Naming Ceremony of Two 318,000 DWT VLCC.   Hyundai Heavy Industries, the world’s biggest shipbuilder, hailed the New Year by naming two 318,000 DWT VLCC (Very Large Crude Oil Carrier) for an Indian shipping line, GESCO today. In the simultaneous naming ceremony, the vessels were named Maneklal Ujamshi Sheth and Ardeshir HBhiwandiwalla, after the former owner and the founder of GESCO respectively. Maneklal Ujamshi Sheth was delivered today and Ardeshir HBhiwandiwalla is scheduled to be delivered in the middle of February this year.   Starting with the ships featuring 319m in length, 60m in width, and 30m in depth with service speed of 16.3 knots, Hyundai Heavy plans to deliver 93 ships this year. Meanwhile, Hyundai Heavy is aiming to secure new orders worth USD 30.6 billion in 2012, 19.6% up from a year earlier and sales of KRW 27.6 trillion (USD 23.9 billion), 9.5% up from last year.  


Sevan Driller Completed

On June 28, the Sevan Driller, first circular drilling rig prepared for drilling at a water depth of almost 4,200 m was named at COSCO Shipyard Group's Qidong Shipyard. A grand naming ceremony was held at the site to celebrate the completion. The Sevan Driller is designed to drill wells of up to almost 13,500 m (40,000 ft) in water depths of up to nearly 4,200 m (12,500 ft) and has internal storage capacity designed to carry up to 150,000 barrels of oil


Stena President Named

Concordia Maritime's product tanker Stena President - the fifth of ten tankers in the P-MAX series – was named today. The naming ceremony will be held at Brodosplit Shipyard out-side Split. After her delivery, the tanker will enter a 10-year charter with Argo Shipping and transport oil from e.g. ports in the Baltic Sea and around the White Sea to Europe and the US. The tanker's godmother will be Nataliya Popravko, wife of Sergey Popravko,


Rickmers Genoa Completes Series

The phasing-in period of Rickmers-Linie's new fleet of nine Superflex Heavy MPC vessels and a series of naming ceremonies have concluded with the christening ceremony of Rickmers Genoa, which took place in her namesake port of Genoa, Italy on Wednesday evening, May 12, 2004. Mrs Nucci Novi Ceppellini, Vice President of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and wife of Dr Giovanni Novi, President of the Port of Genoa, acted as godmother of the vessel, currently on her maiden voyage


UASC Names Samsung Heavy Built Containership

United Arab Shipping Company increases its fleet with the naming of its ninth containership newbuild from Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard The United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has named it’s new 13,500 TEU containership Ain Snan at a ceremony in Hamburg, following a nine-month building phase. The last of a series of nine UASC newbuilds from the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard in Korea, the 366-metre-long and 48 metre-wide ultra large container ship (ULCS) has a loading capacity


Korea-built Container Ships for Evergreen Named

Naming ceremonies held at  Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard for two 8,542 TEU L-class container ships built for Evergreen. Ever Laden, the second L-type containership of Evergreen Line, was christened by S.S. Lin, the Evergreen Group's First Vice Group Chairman, at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard. The ceremonial rope cutting for the new 8,452-TEU vessel was performed by Mrs. Mei-Sui Lin in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from Taiwan and abroad.


LNG Carrier Named

The LNG carrier Arctic Princess was named in Nagasaki, Japan, today. The ceremony was sponsored by Mrs. Irene Rummelhoff of Statoil representing the charterer, Snøhvit Sellers. The Artic Princess is the first LNG carrier that will be employed for carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the world's northernmost LNG development - Snøhvit. The Arctic Princess will be delivered in January 2006 and will be chartered to the Snøhvit Sellers for a period of 20 years.


Costa Favolosa Finishes Sea Trials

The Costa Favolosa has successfully completed the official sea trials. The naming ceremony is scheduled for 2nd July in Trieste, with an event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. The Costa Favolosa, the new flagship of Costa Cruises, Italy’s largest tourism group and Europe’s no. 1 cruise company, has successfully completed her official sea trials. The ship, the 15th in Costa’s fleet, built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera (Venice)


World's First Dual-fuel Ice-class LNG Carrier

LNG Carrier 'Coral Energy' naming ceremony to take place next month at the Port of Rotterdam Cruise Terminal. The new ship is claimed by the Dutch owners, Anthony Veder,  to be world’s first direct driven dual-fuel ice class 1A LNG carrier. Its development started in 2010 in close cooperation with Norwegian gas provider Skangass. The design of the ship makes it possible to deliver LNG to all sizes of terminals in an environmental friendly way

Hamburger Lloyd Takes Over 4,600 TEU Containership Newbuilding in China
