Navy Names Austal’s Next Two Littoral Combat Ships

Austal hosted a visit by the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Ray Mabus on Friday, March 25. He was joined by U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions, Congressman Jo Bonner, Austal USA President and Chief Operating Officer, Joe Rella, and Mobile Mayor Sam Jones in formally announcing the names that he has selected for the first two Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) of the recently awarded 10-ship contract to Austal. LCS 6 will be named USS Jackson and LCS 8 will be named USS Montgomery.

Norfolk Harbor Channel Dredging

USN Awards $52M Contract To DD21 Gold Team

The U.S. Navy announced a $124 million contract modification for continuation of design and test planning of its 21st century DD 21 destroyer program. The contract was awarded to the DD 21 Alliance which includes Ingalls Shipbuilding here and Bath Iron Works of Bath, Me. Navy to Base First Four LCS in San Diego

The Navy announced today that the first four Littoral Combat Ships LCS) will be homeported at Naval Station San Diego, Calif. Key in the success of implementing these new concepts is the ability to collocate these ships to achieve readiness alignment and economy of scale. American Superconductor Gets Navy Contract

American Superconductor Corporation announced it has been awarded an $8 million contract by the US Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR) to build and deliver a 6,500 hp high temperature superconductor (HTS) motor designed for ship propulsion. New Sub Named USS John Warner

The secretary of the Navy announced that the next Virginia-class attack submarine will be named in honor of recently retired Virginia Senator John Warner.  Warner retired Jan. 3, 2009, after 30 years of service in the U.S. Senate. USS San Francisco Investigation Completed

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- The U.S. Navy announced May 9 the completion of the investigation into the Jan. 8 accident aboard the submarine USS San Francisco (SSN 711) that claimed the life of one Sailor. San Francisco struck an undersea mountain about 360 miles southeast of its Guam homeport because its leaders and watch teams failed to develop and execute a safe voyage plan, the command investigation into the incident concluded.
