Kresa Recieves Top Navy League Honor

Kent Kresa, Northrop Grumman Corporation's chairman of the board and CEO, is the recipient of the 2002 Navy League of the United States' Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award. This award was presented at the organization's Sea-Air-Space Exposition Banquet March 27 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. Kresa, well known in the defense industry, received the Nimitz Award for his exceptional contribution to maintaining the United States' maritime strength. Kresa's career at Northrop Grumman began in 1975 as vice president and manager of the company's Research and Technology Center, developing new proprietary processes and products for the company. In 1976-82, he served as corporate vice president and general manager of the Ventura Division, a leader in the production of unmanned aeronautical vehicles. In 1982, he was appointed group vice president of the company's Aircraft Group and in 1986 was named senior vice president -- Technology Development and Planning. Kresa was elected president of Northrop Grumman in 1987, chief executive officer in January 1990 and chairman in September 1990. In recognition of his leadership and contributions to the industry and government, Kresa has received many honors and awards including the Private Sector Council's 2001 Leadership Award for his commitment to improve government efficiency


Navy League: U.S. Shipyards, Operators Critical to National Security

USNS Stockham Stops in Guam, Opens Doors to Navy League

Lance Cpl. Jeffrey A. Rapp and Lance Cpl. Nathan G. Seither, assigned to Military Sealift Command (MSC) roll-on/roll-off ship USNS Stockham (T-AK 3017), load rice on a HH-60H helicopter to deliver to outlying islands in support of humanitarian efforts. Stockham is in the Solomon Islands to facilitate the U.S. Department of State and non-governmental organizations humanitarian assistance operation. On April 2, an 8.1 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami struck the Solomon Islands


Newest Navy Ship Visit

USS Stockdale (DDG 106), the Navy's newest Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer, will be arriving at Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme on Tuesday, April 14th at approximately 10:00 a.m. and will be Commissioned during a formal ceremony on April 18 at 11:00 featuring Admiral Keating as the Keynote Speaker and H. VSD Subsidiary Appoints Managing Director

Obituary: Adm. Owen W. Siler

Adm. Owen W. Siler, 85, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard from 1974 to 1978, died from heart failure July 17 at St. Joseph's hospital in Atlanta. A World War II veteran, Siler served in combat duty aboard two ships in the Pacific and participated in the occupation of Northern Honshu, Japan, following Japan's surrender. His Coast Guard career highlights included serving as a deck officer afloat, as an aviator performing search and rescue patrols, and ashore in the law enforcement


McAlear Named CEO Of Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard

Kvaerner, the Anglo-Norwegian engineering and construction Group, has elected Ronald J. McAlear, as CEO of its Philadelphia Shipyard. He replaces Baard Bale, who has been acting CEO of the yard since June, and will be returning to Kvaerner's international headquarters in London in December. McAlear has spent his entire professional career in the maritime industry, and currently holds a senior executive position with Litton Avondale Industries

Mississippi Hosts Fourth Annual National SeaPerch Challenge
