Mediterranean Project Chartering Moves

Mediterranean Project Chartering (MPC), a subsidiary of BBC Chartering & Logistic, is moving its head office in Genoa. Business growth since it was established in 2007 to foster the commercial business activities of BBC in markets across the Mediterranean, has necessitated a move to a larger dedicated office. “As BBC’s representative for the Mediterranean, we have benefited from having access to a large, versatile and constantly growing fleet of more than 140 modern and multipurpose heavy lift vessels,” said MPC managing director, Matteo Fortuna. “This has enabled us to develop a number of sailing options over the last two years. Whilst they are not scheduled liner services, these effectively offer three fixed-monthly sailings for heavy and over dimensional project cargoes moving between Italian ports and ports in the Middle East Gulf, West Africa and the US Gulf respectively. “The result is that we can offer our customers tailor-made solutions from Italy, Southern France, Turkey and North Africa." Northwestern University Center To Open

Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), an early donor to the Northwestern University Transportation Center's "Building for the Future" campaign, is joining other supporters in celebrating the dedication this month of the center's new 20,000-square-foot headquarters building. A conference room in the building will be named in honor of NOL, which gave $100,000 to the center's campaign. Approximately $75,000 went toward the building, while $25,000 was designated for research fellowships at the center.

MOL Completes Containership Collision Drills

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced the completion of a tabletop drill done in cooperation with the fifth Regional Coast Guard Headquarters. The scenario entailed a containership operated by MOL Liner Division (Hong Kong) and managed by an MOL Group ship management company (Hong Kong) colliding with a coastal freighter in Osaka Bay, Japan. The drill was held on Thursday, May 16, with aim to further strengthening MOL's emergency response structure
