Boston Safety Zones Created

The US Coast Guard has established two temporary safety zones each with a radius of 500 meters around two independent submerged turret loading buoys of Excelerate Energy’s Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port in federal waters of the Atlantic Ocean approximately 13 nautical miles south-southwest of Gloucester, Massachusetts. All vessels, other than liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and their support vessels, are prohibited from entering the safety zones. 73 Fed. Reg. 1274 (HK Law).


Excelerate, Exmar, Armada & MEBA Reach LNG Crewing Pact

The Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association (MEBA) has signed an agreement with Armada Companies, LLC to supply U.S. Coast Guard licensed officers for liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers. Armada has a contract with Belgium-based Exmar, N.V., to provide U.S.-citizen merchant officers supplied by MEBA to serve onboard Exmar's LNG vessels. This week MEBA began integrating LNG officers into Exmar's fleet. Construction is underway on Excelerate Energy's Northeast Gateway


MarAd Oks Plan For Mass. Bay LNG Terminal

Suez Energy North America announced MarAd has agreed to issue a deep water port license for its Neptune offshore liquefied natural gas terminal planned for Massachusetts Bay. The license will be issued after the Neptune project, planned in federal waters about 7 miles south-southeast of Gloucester, receives environmental permits from the Army Corps of Engineers as well as water and air discharge permits from the Environmental Protection Agency.


First Vessel At New Korean Facility

The Hanjin Oslo sailed into the harbor of Pusan Newport becoming the first container vessel to arrive at the new Mega Hub. The 279 meter vessel’s arrival was a commemorative event carrying 45 distinguished passengers on a short voyage from the old Busan port to the new state-of-the-art Pusan Newport facility. Passengers included the Minister of Maritime and Fisheries (MOMAF), the President of Busan Port Authority, PNC executives, Pilot Association President, Tugboat Association President


Hammond Commends DP World London Gateway

The UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport and Wimbledon MP, Rt. Hon. Stephen Hammond MP has paid a visit to DP World London Gateway to congratulate the team on their success. During Hammond’s last visit in January 2013, the port had only just started to install the first of its yard cranes. Since opening in November 2013, DP World London Gateway has seen a continued increase in ship traffic and is due to see a new West Africa service start in a few weeks.


MCS Adds London Stop to Australia Express Service

The MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A Australia Express Service will begin calling at DP World London Gateway Port, the U.K.’s newest deep-sea terminal, following changes to the service. The service will now provide direct calls between DP World London Gateway Port, King Abdullah port in Saudi Arabia, Colombo in Sri Lanka and ports around the Australian coast. It will reportedly be the fastest direct service between Northern Europe and Australia in the market.

BC Shippers Welcomes Northern Gateway Approval

Chamber of Shipping of British Columbia welcomes Federal Decision to Approve Northern Gateway Pipeline The Chamber of Shipping of British Columbia today welcomed the federal government's decision to approve the Northern Gateway Pipeline. Chamber President Captain Stephen Brown said the decision confirms the conclusion of the work undertaken by the Joint Review Panel that Northern Gateway is in the country's national interest and can be operated safely on land and on water.


Hummer to Head MARAD N. Cal. Office

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration has named John Hummer to head its new Northern California Gateway Office in San Francisco.  Prior to this appointment, Mr. Hummer served as the State of California’s deputy secretary for goods movement in the Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency. The Maritime Administration has established nine gateway offices at the Nation’s largest ports to ensure locally-based teams of intermodal maritime


Iridium, H2OSatellite on Beluga’s NE Passage Transit

Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM) and H2OSatellite provided critical satellite communications for Beluga Shipping’s successful pioneering transit of the challenging Northeast Passage this summer. The Beluga ships relied on Iridium OpenPort high-bandwidth marine satellite systems supplied by H2OSatellite for voice and data links throughout their voyage through the extreme Northern waterways, most of which are not reliably covered by any other long-range communication service.

DP World increases Stake in Pusan Newport

DP World has acquired an additional 23.94% stake in Pusan Newport Company Limited (PNC) in South Korea from Samsung Corporation & Subsidiaries. This increases DP World’s holding in PNC to 66.03%, and the terms of the transaction are undisclosed.

St. Lawrence Seaway Expecting a Strong Finish

Los Angeles Container Volumes Jump 23.6%
