Leadership Changes at Huntington Ingalls Industries

U.S. shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today a number of changes across its leadership team. HII’s Board of Directors has elected Christopher D. Kastner to succeed Barbara A. Niland as the company’s chief financial officer and corporate vice president, business management, effective with Niland’s retirement on March 1, 2016. Furthermore Philip Luna, corporate vice president and president, UniversalPegasus International (UPI), a subsidiary of HII, has been promoted to the HII senior executive team, effective immediately.

Coast Guard Foundation to Honor HII’s Petters

The Coast Guard Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced that its 35th Annual Salute to the U.S. Coast Guard will honor Mike Petters of Huntington Ingalls Industries for his long time support of the Foundation and its mission. Keynote speakers will include Captain “Sully” Sullenberger, captain of ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ US Airlines flight 1549 and Admiral Paul Zukunft, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. The Master of Ceremonies will be Gus Rosendale, news anchor with NBC 4 New York.

Navy League Honors Retired Ingalls President

Irwin F. Edenzon, the retired president of Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division, accepted the Navy League of the United States' Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award last night. The Navy League presented the award at the annual Sea-Air-Space Black Tie Reception and Banquet at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. The Nimitz award honors an industry leader who has made a major contribution to the nation's maritime strength or enhanced national security.

HII’s Petters Honored by Navy League

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that Mike Petters, its president and CEO, was honored by the Navy League of the United States New York Council at a dinner last night in New York City. Petters was awarded the Rear Admiral John J. Bergen Leadership in Industry Award for his leadership of HII and the company's achievement in designing and building the ships that help maintain the sea power that assures the United Sates' security and economic prosperity. He was one of five individuals recognized by the Navy League.

Cuccias to Succeed Edenzon as Ingalls President

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that Irwin F. Edenzon will retire on Dec. 1, 2014. Edenzon is currently corporate vice president and president of Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. Although Edenzon will not officially retire until December 2014, he will step down as president on March 31, 2014, and the HII Board of Directors has elected Brian Cuccias to succeed Edenzon in the position of corporate vice president and president of Ingalls Shipbuilding, effective April 1, 2014.

HII's Barb Niland Named Top CFO by Virginia Business Magazine

Barb Niland, HII's corporate vice president of business management & chief financial officer, was recognized in the publicly traded companies category. "I am honored to work with more than 37,000 of the most talented shipbuilders in the world," Niland said upon receiving the award at the eighth annual CFO Awards Banquet in Richmond. Niland is the CFO of the largest manufacturing employer in Virginia and one of the state's 23 Fortune 500 companies. She led HII's spin-off from Northrop Grumman Corp. in 2011 and successfully transitioned from a business unit CFO to a public company CFO.

HII CEO Mike Petters Speaks at University of Virginia

Newport News - Huntington Ingalls Industries President and CEO Mike Petters spoke at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business on March 6. Petters' address was part of the school's Leadership Speakers Series, which features the world's thought  leaders and gives MBA students, faculty and staff the opportunity to hear and discuss leaders' stories and advice. Petters shared with students his views on leadership, talent development and the importance of having great people. When asked what he has learned in his career as a leader, Petters said success is not the result of products or processes, but the efforts of people. "The most important thing done in business is done through your people," he said.

Frazier Joins ShipConstructor

ShipConstructor Software USA, Inc. announced that John P. Frazier has joined the ShipConstructor Team as Technical Account Manager. Frazier is coming from Autodesk where he worked in the roles of Technical Consultant and Technical Account Manager. In these functions worked with Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Northrop Grumman Newport News, the US Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard as well as Boeing. Bill Proposes $50m for Shipyard Training

USS Carl Vinson Readies

Sailors aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) are conducting general quarters (GQ) drills this November after a three-year pause while the ship was undergoing its extensive mid-life overhaul at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Newport News, Va. For Sailors who have served aboard Vinson during its tenure in the shipyard, the implementation of GQ drills signals an imminent return of the aircraft carrier to operational status. Leading the efforts is the ship's Damage Control Assistant, Cmdr. Chris Majors. Now is the time for Vinson's crew to bring themselves to an at-sea state of readiness. GQ drills enhance the ship's ability to be effective as a war-fighting platform.

September 11: A Crew Remembers

The shock of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 is a feeling that many USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Sailors have not forgotten. When those tragic attacks on American soil occurred on that fateful day, a wave of emotion swept the country. "I was in school in Alaska, and our principal came in and announced what had happened in New York," said Storekeeper Seaman Harlin Esmailka. "I was shocked, but I also felt more patriotic than ever. The shock Esmailka felt was not uncommon. After the attacks, a wave of new enlistments into the U.S. Armed Forces and displays of patriotic sentiments showed the world that Americans would unite as a people during tragedy. "I knew when the attacks happened that I would serve one day," said Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) Patrick Cademas.

Navy Takes Delivery of Submarine North Carolina

The Navy took delivery of its newest attack submarine, PCU North Carolina (SSN 777), from Northrop Grumman Newport News (NGNN) Feb. 21. North Carolina is the fourth Virginia-class submarine and the second delivered by NGNN. “Eighteen months ago I estimated that North Carolina would deliver six months late, but thanks to the hard work of a lot of people at both NGNN and GDEB [General Dynamics Electric Boat] we were able to deliver only about seven weeks late to the original schedule – a 10-month improvement when compared to NGNN’s first Virginia-class submarine, USS Texas (SSN 775),” said Capt. Dave Johnson, Virginia-class program manager. The Virginia-class is the Navy’s first major combatant designed and delivered specifically for the post-Cold War security environment.

Testing of Virginia Class Submarines is Underway

The TECHEVAL marks the first of many milestones being accomplished by the Virginia Class Program this year. North Carolina (SSN 777), the fourth ship of the class, is scheduled for delivery later this month and will be commissioned on May 3 in Wilmington, N.C. The fifth Virginia Class ship, New Hampshire (SSN 778), will be christened June 21 at General Dynamics Electric Boat’s Groton, Conn., facility and is scheduled to deliver in August or September – seven to eight months before its contract delivery date. New Mexico (SSN 779), the seventh Virginia, will have its keel laid on April 12 at the Northrop Grumman Newport News facility in Newport News, Va. On Jan.

SECNAV Names Three New Virginia Class Attack Submarines

Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Donald C. Winter announced Jan. 30 the names of three Virginia class submarines -- the Missouri, California and Mississippi. The selection of Missouri honors the continuous support of the military by the people of the "Show Me State," and its leaders. Designated SSN 780, Missouri is the fifth ship of the United States Navy to be named in honor of the U.S. state. The last Missouri (BB 63), a U.S. Navy battleship, saw action in World War II, Korean War and the 1991 Gulf War. Missouri was also the site where Fleet Adm. Chester Nimitz and Gen. Douglas MacArthur, and many other U.S. and Allied officers, accepted the unconditional surrender of the Japanese at the end of World War II on Sept. 2, 1945.

Project for Shipyard will cost $3.08b

Workers at Northrop Grumman's Newport News shipyard will help build a new class of Navy ship beginning this year, following an endorsement by the Navy of a work-sharing agreement between Newport News and the company's Pascagoula, Miss.-based Ship Systems. The shipyard will produce four components of the LHA-6, the Navy's new generation of amphibious ships, the service confirmed Thursday. The collaboration marks the first tangible sign of Northrop Grumman's merger of two shipyard sectors into one unit. The LHA-6 is a smaller, non-nuclear powered version of an aircraft carrier. At a cost to the U.S. Navy of $3.08 billion, the 844-foot vessel can hold up to 34 aircraft and more than 3,000 troops.

Northrop Grumman, Newport News Shipbuilding Announce Definitive Merger Agreement

Northrop Grumman Corporation and Newport News Shipbuilding Inc. announced today that they have signed a definitive agreement under which Northrop Grumman will acquire Newport News Shipbuilding. The boards of directors of both companies approved the terms of the transaction in which Northrop Grumman will acquire all the outstanding shares of Newport News. $67.50, subject to certain limitations and proration procedures. Northrop Grumman expects to promptly amend its existing offer documents in order to reflect the merger agreement. Newport News Shipbuilding Receives Revised Proposal From Northrop Grumman

stockholders would be adjusted so that Newport News stockholders would receive a value of $67.50 per share if the market value of Northrop Grumman Common Stock does not exceed $100 per share and is not less than $80 per share. Newport News said that it has been advised by Northrop Grumman that the Northrop Grumman Board of Directors has approved this proposal. Newport News said that it expects that its Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, November 7, to consider the new Northrop Grumman proposal. CAE Awarded U.S. Navy Contracts

CAE has been selected to supply electric plant control systems for the largest and most advanced warship in naval history, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), as well as for the U.S. Navy’s latest LPD 17 class amphibious ship, the USS New York (LPD 21). The total value of these contracts is approximately C$12 million. CAE will provide prime contractor Northrop Grumman Newport News with computer-based control system technology for the USS George H.W. Bush.
