American Equity Safety Awards Announced

The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU) 2011 Safety Awards were presented at the annual American Longshore Mutual Association (ALMA) Conference in Grand Cayman on July 30, 2012.   The awards are given each year to the best performing ALMA members nationwide and are based on the number of accidents and the severity of accidents for each calendar year. The award is an acknowledgement that these companies are leaders in the most important aspect of business operation – protecting employees from injury or death.  This is the one effort that should lead all others as businesses strive for improved results and better performance.    Three safety award winners are presented in both the marine cargo handling and shipyard industries:   Marine Cargo Handling: International Transportation Service, Inc. Double Triumph for Stork Technical Services

Stork Technical Services, a global provider of knowledge-based asset integrity management services for the oil and gas, chemical and power sectors, won two awards at this year’s U.K. Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards. Marc Brankin, Scaffold Chargehand for Stork won The Most Promising Individual category. Stork and bSolutions at Banff and Buchan College jointly won the Innovation in Safety award for establishing an industry-first Temporary Refuge (TR) Testing City and Guilds


USACE Earns Safety Award

A record low accident rate and a command-wide emphasis on safety helped the USACE earn the 1998 Chief of Staff of Army's Major Army Command (MACOM) Safety Award. USACE, one of only two commands to earn the 1998 award, has earned it three of the past four years. The award recognizes the continued improvement of the USACE safety record in FY 98. In FY 98, there were no accidental federal employee fatalities during normal duty hours, and only 470 lost-time injuries and illnesses


Goben Named First PVA Safety Award Recipient

Captain Richard Goben, Hornblower Events & Cruises, San Diego, CA has been awarded the Passenger Vessel Association and the Passenger Vessel Foundation’s first recipient of the Roger Murphy National Marine Safety Award. He was nominated by his employer, California-based Hornblower Events & Cruises. Goben was chosen over several other, well-qualified candidates by PVA's Safety & Security Committee. Bollinger Wins Signal Safety Award

Bollinger Shipyards president and CEO, Donald “Boysie” Bollinger, won the 2011 Executive Leadership Safety Award by Signal Mutual Indemnity Association. The award, which is Signal’s highest honor, was presented at the Signal Mutual Board of Directors meeting held on January 20, 2012 in Vail, Colorado. Bollinger was selected from the more than two hundred Signal Mutual Members based upon a number of factors including safety contributions to the industry


Offshore Vessel Operators Gain International Safety Award

North Star Shipping gains International Safety Award from the British Safety Council North Star Shipping has received a prestigious international award from one of the world's leading health and safety training, advisory and audit bodies. Following rigorous assessment by an independent adjudication panel the British Safety Council has bestowed its International Safety Award on North Star Shipping for the eleventh consecutive year.


Lloyd’s Register Wins Safety Award

Lloyd’s Register has won an award from BP for achieving a two-year safety record on its BP Independent Inspection Authority contract (BP IIA). Gael Lewis, Lloyd’s Register’s Director of Energy & Transportation received the award from Scott Urban, Group Vice President of BP's North Sea operations, at a regular UK safety forum involving the senior management of all BP's contractors.
