SEACOR SMIT Inc. announced that the change of its name to "SEACOR Holdings Inc." became effective at 12:01 a.m. on March 15, 2004. The ticker symbol and CUSIP number for the Company's common stock will remain unchanged. Holders of stock certificates bearing the name "SEACOR SMIT Inc." may continue to hold them and will not be required to exchange them for new stock certificates or take any other action. In addition, the Company's Internet website URL will change to http://www.seacorholdings.com. SEACOR and its subsidiaries are engaged in the operation of a diversified fleet of offshore support vessels that service oil and gas exploration and development activities in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, West Africa, Asia, Latin America and other international regions. Other business activities primarily include environmental services, inland river operations, and offshore aviation services.
Seacor Smit Inc. announced net earnings for the third quarter ending Sept. 30 of $5 million on revenues of $71.9 million. Results for the quarter included a charge of $2.6 million for additional income tax expense related to the company's decision to liquidate a foreign joint venture, and an extraordinary gain of $890,000 relating to the early retirement of debt. In the same period a year ago, Seacor earned $26.4 million, on revenues of $100 million.
SEACOR Marine has selected marine diesel engines from the Tognum brand MTU for its latest pair of fast supply vessels. The two vessels, SEACOR Lynx and SEACOR Leopard, will have an overall length of 190 feet and the capacity to carry up to 150 passengers. The vessels will also have the capacity to carry 150 tons of deck cargo and the ability to achieve speeds of 46 knots. Each vessel will be powered by four MTU 16V 4000 M73L engines rated at 3,860 bhp at 2,050 RPM.

Smit International is in talks to buy Canada's Rivtow Marine, a harbor towage service and transport firm active in Canada and the U.S. No financial details of the planned takeover were immediately available.
