DHS Port Security Grants

The President’s FY 2005 request includes $46 million in port security grants to be administered by the Office of Domestic Preparedness. The Maritime Transportation Security Act authorizes the Secretary of Transportation, acting through the Maritime Administrator, to make port security grants to port authorities, facility operators, and state and local governments. These grants may be used to correct vulnerabilities in port security and ensure compliance with Area Maritime Transportation Security Plans and facility plans. In Fiscal Years 2002, 2003 and 2004 a total of $588 million has been appropriated for these grants. Of that amount, $442 million has been awarded. An additional round of grants in expected to be made later this year. In FY 2004, $124.5 million was provided to the Transportation Security Administration for these grants. (HK Law)

Port Security and OSC Grants Announced

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced the second round of port security grants and the Operation Safe Commerce (OSC) grants. The port security grants totaling almost $170 million were awarded to 199 state and local agencies and private companies. DHS Announces $260m in Supplemental Grants Funding

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a supplemental Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 grant guidance and application kits for three grant programs: the Port Security Grant Program (PSGP), Transit Security Grant Program (TSGP), and Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) Program. The supplemental announcement of $260 million is in addition to $567m awarded from the regular FY 2007 appropriations for these programs, totaling roughly $827m this fiscal year.

Port Security Grant Funds Available

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) said that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that it has made available an additional $110m in fiscal 2007 Port Security Grant funding. U.S. Ports Laud Additional Federal Security Grants

U.S. ports seeking federal grants for 1,065 security enhancement measures learned today that 442 of the plans will be funded. The news came as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) named recipients of $179,025,900 in the third round of federal grants for port security. Applications totaling over $987 million had been submitted by ports across the country seeking funding assistance in order to comply with new U.S. Coast Guard security regulations that take effect next year.
