SHI Receives Order for 16 Methanol-Powered Ships
Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has signed a shipbuilding contract for 16 16,000 TEU methanol-powered container ships from a shipowner in Asia.Evergreen Shippingâs subsidiary Evergreen Marine (Asia) has placed an order with SHI for 16 vessels and a separate order for eight 16,000 TEU with Japanâs Nihon Shipyard.The order amount was KRW 3,959.3 billion ($3.1 billion), the largest ever for a single ship contract, says SHI. It has broken the previous record (12 LNG carriers, KRW 3.331 trillion) set by SHI in June of last year.

Ingalls Lifts Deckhouse onto DDG125
Huntington Ingalls Industriesâ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division on Wednesday lifted the aft deckhouse onto guided missile destroyer Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125). The 320-ton aft deckhouse includes radar equipment rooms, main engine intake and exhaust compartments, electric shop and staterooms.âOur team has kept this first Flight III ship ahead of schedule by working collaboratively and using lessons learned from our long history of building destroyers,â said Ben Barnett, Ingalls DDG 125 program manager.
New Patrol Vessel Delivered for Dutch Police
Damen Shipyards Gorinchem has hosted the naming ceremony of a Damen Stan Patrol (SPa) 2005 for the Dutch National Police. The new vessel â named P64 â marks the second vessel in a six-ship contract between Damen and the Dutch Police.The Dutch Police will use the new SPa 2005 for deployment on the Netherlandsâ extensive inland waterways. The vesselâs aluminium hull and FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) superstructure will provide the lightweight means required for fast and effective police patrol operations.

Americaâs largest military shipbuilding company Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) said that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division authenticated the keel of the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer Jack H. Algoma Central: Refund Given for Cancelled Ship Contract
Algoma Central Corporation (TSX: ALC), a provider of marine transportation services, announced that it has received full refund of all instalment payments made in connection with the now-cancelled shipbuilding contracts with Uljanik d.d. and 3Maj Shipyard of Croatia.Algoma entered into five shipbuilding contracts with 3Maj Shipyard, an operating unit of Uljanik d.d of Croatia. According to a press release from Algoma, after considerable delay, the first of the five vessels was delivered in 2018; however, Algoma cancelled the remaining four contracts as the shipyardâs financial difficulties led to a much-publicized attempt to refinance the company and shipyard management was unable to put forward a credible plan that would lead to completion of the remaining hulls.

Schulte Marine Concept (SMC) said it has won its first cruise ship contract with Portugal-based Mystic Cruises. Schulte Marine Concept the project management arm of maritime services company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM), working together with Bernhard Schulte Cruise Services (BS Cruise), will provide technical consultancy and newbuild supervision services to support construction of the oceangoing luxury expedition cruise ship, MS World Explorer. MS World Explorer will be built as a 126-meter long expedition cruise ship with a passenger capacity of 200 and a crew complement of 111.
Deltamarin Wins Contract for Viking Line Newbuild
Deltamarin Ltd said it has signed contracts with Chinese shipbuilder Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd (XSI) for engineering and construction support services for the Viking Line Liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelled ro-pax vessel newbuilding. The contracts cover basic and detail design as well as comprehensive project management support and supervision services to the shipyard during vessel construction. The new ro-pax vessel for Viking Line will have a passenger capacity of 2,800 people, and the length of its cargo lanes will be 1,500 meters.

Tulsa (LCS 16) to be Christened
Austal will host The Honorable Kathy Taylor, ship sponsor, for the christening of the Tulsa (LCS 16) at its Mobile, Ala. shipyard, Feb. 11. Taylor was Tulsaâs 38th Mayor and is currently Chief of Economic Development for Tulsaâs sitting Mayor, G.T. Bynum. Her administration hired the first Veteranâs Liaison in the Mayorâs office, helped establish the first Veteranâs Court in the nation, formed the Tulsa Veterans Advisory Council and worked with local colleges to increase veteran enrollment and completion of college. This marks the sixth Independence-variant LCS christening in Austalâs 11-ship contract worth over $3.5 billion. LCS 16 is the second ship in the U.S. Navy to be named after Tulsa, the second largest city in Oklahoma.
Ingalls starts work on destroyer Higbee for US Navy
Huntington Ingalls Industriesâ Ingalls Shipbuilding division officially started fabrication of the Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) destroyer Lenah H. Sutcliffe Higbee (DDG 123) on Wednesday. The start of fabrication signifies that the first 100 tons of steel have been cut. âStarting fabrication on another destroyer is a great way to start the year,â Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias said. âIngalls has delivered 29 of these ships to the U.S. Navy, and our hot production line continues to improve the construction process. Deltamarine Bags $4.5m Vessel Design Job
Deltamarin, a subsidiary of AVIC International Maritime Holdings, has been contracted by Finlandâs Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard to design a new ro-pax vessel. AVIC said Deltamarine will provide the Finnish Rauma Marine Constructions Oy shipyard with services for a ro-pax vessel to be built for the Danish Mols-Linien A/S. âThe new 158-metre ro-pax vessel will be designed and optimised to carry passengers and cargo between the Danish islands of Bornholm and Sjaelland. The cargo capacity will be 1,500 lane metres,â a press release said. The work under the contract will be performed at Deltamarinâs offices in Finland and Poland for a period of 12 months. "Construction will commence in spring 2017 and the vessel will enter service in autumn 2018," said the release.
Hyundai Heavy Wins Russian Bid for 12-Ship Contract
South Koreaâs troubled shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. announced that it has been selected as the preferred bidder for a 12-oil tanker contract worth $660 million of Russiaâs Sovcomflot, reports Korea Herald. Russiaâs largest state-owned shipping company Sovcomflot last month chose the South Korean shipbuilder as preferred bidder to build 12 oil tankers which will be used to carry crude oil produced in Russia to overseas. Sovocomflot will charter the fleet to Shell. Sovcomflot is a state-owned shipping company that specializes in petroleum and LNG shipping. The two firms are in talks to determine detailed terms of the agreement and plan to sign a deal within the month.

Austal Limited (Austal) (ASX:ASB) has been awarded a US$11,239,032 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract modification from the U.S. Navy to provide emergent availability planning and full ship shock trials (FSST) support for tests to be conducted on Littoral Combat Ship USS JACKSON (LCS 6). Specifically, Austal USA will plan for and conduct any âin-between shotâ repairs required during the FSST event(s), repair any damage sustained during the FSST period and coordinate the removal of FSST testing equipment and instrumentation following completion of the trials. The FFST comprise a series of tests designed to demonstrate the shipâs ability to withstand the effects of nearby underwater explosions and retain required capability.

The delivery of LCS 8 marks the fourth Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Austal has delivered to the Navy. Austal Chief Executive Officer David Singleton said this is the second vessel that Austal has delivered as the prime contractor and is testament to a lot of hard work in preparing the ship to the shock requirements. Six additional LCS remain under construction in Mobile as part of an 11-ship contract worth over US$3.5 billion from the U.S. Navy. Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10), Omaha (LCS 12) and Manchester (LCS 14) are all preparing for trials.
