Six Shipyards Appoint Del Mar as Agents

Del Mar Marine Corp. based in Miami, Florida, was appointed in May as shipyard agents by the following yards: Dalian Daeyang Shipyard Co., Ltd. (China),  Guangzhou CSSC-Oceanline-Gws Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (China), Ilyichevsk Shiprepair Yard (Ukraine), Industria Naval del Pacifico S.A. de C.V. (Mexico) and Southern African Shipyards (PTY) Ltd. (South Africa), also their affiliated company Del Mar Panama S.A. based in Panama was appointed as shipyard agents by Zhanjiagang Jiu Sheng Shipyard Co. Ltd. (China).


NSA And SCA Merge

Donald T. 'Boysie' Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., and chairman of the National Shipyard Association (NSA) and Daniel L. Gulling, president of Marinette Marine Corp., and chairman of the Shipbuilders Council of America have announced the merger of the two associations. Keppel Completes Conversion Poject for Prosafe

Keppel Shipyard, the wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation Limited (KCL) through Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), has successfully converted a 132,500 dwt tanker into a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for Prosafe Production. The vessel, previously known as Grey Warrior, was named ABO FPSO by Ms AmaI Pepple, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria, at a ceremony held at Keppel Shipyard this morning.


PacFish Acquires Equipment from MARCO Auction

PacFish Shipyard acquired shipyard marine equipment at the MARCO Shipyard auction on the Lake Washington Ship Canal, including a Wheelabrator sandblast cabinet with 6-ft. rotary table, equipped with dust collector and re-useable shotblast for zero discharge to the environment. Dolphin Plans Foray into Shipbuilding

With its greenfield shipyard project yet to receive all necessary clearances, offshore service provider Dolphin Offshore Ltd is in the process of forging alliances with domestic shipyards in a bid to dip into the booming shipbuilding market at the earliest. The company is in talks with three shipyards — two in Gujarat and one in Maharashtra-- to finalize a deal with one of the shipyards within the next two months.


MARAD $14.7M in Grants for Small Shipyards

On April 15, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced $14.7m in grant awards to help improve 17 small shipyards in 16 states.  The funds will help these shipyards become more competitive by purchasing modern equipment and training workers. “These grants will help modernize small shipyards and strengthen our economy by making sure we maintain the ability to build and repair ships in the United States,” said U.S

Tidewater Names New Manager for Quality Shipyards

Tidewater Inc. announced that Joseph R. Badeaux has joined Tidewater Inc. as General Manager and Vice President of its shipyard, Quality Shipyards, L.L.C. Mr. Badeaux has 29 years of experience in ship design, construction, repair, commissioning, project management and operations management. He is a graduate of Old Dominion University, and originally from Virginia, and will be based at Tidewater's Quality Shipyards, L.L.C. located in Houma, Louisiana.


Hellenic Shipyards To Go On Block

Greece's development ministry appointed Alpha Finance to advise it on the planned sale of Hellenic Shipyards. Alpha Finance will undertake all activities on finding an investor for Hellenic Shipyards at Skaramanga via an international tender, with an eye to selling up to 100 percent of the enterprise. The ministry said the tender is scheduled to be held in the next four months. Hellenic Shipyards is one of 10 privatizations the development ministry said it has planned for 2001.


Mytilineos Eyes Major Stake In Shipyard

Greek engineering and metallurgy group Mytilineos is eyeing a majority stake in Hellenic Shipyards in an effort to penetrate further into Greece's defense industry, a company official said. "The group is interested in acquiring a 51 percent stake in Hellenic Shipyards at Skaramanga, however, this will depend on the terms to be set by the Greek government," Vangelis Mytilineos said.
