Mid America Shipyard Delivers Another Truckable Tug
Mid America Shipyards LLC, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, has just delivered another of its truckable tug boats. The vessel has been shipped to a project in up-state New York. This tug boat was constructed in 30 working days which was done in half the time of our last tugs. The J-KRAB is the Seventh Vessel to leave our yard this year so far. WESMAR Thrusters ABS DP Approval
WESMAR announced that two more of their all stainless steel bow thrusters have been given ABS Certificate of Design Assessment for dynamic positioning (DP) applications. WESMAR Models V2-24 and V2-26 Vortex dual prop all stainless steel bow thrusters have joined the V2-20NS system, which received the design approval rating earlier this year. The horsepower ratings for the V2-24 and V2-26 range from 175 to 225, for operation on vessels up to 225 hp.
POSCO to Reset Steel Prices
POSCO is rearranging its steel prices in response to fluctuating international prices and domestic demand. On May 1, the steel producer will lift prices of mini-mill products, stainless steel and cut steel plate prices. In a statement, the company said prices for mini-mill hot-rolled coil will rise by $21 per ton to $501 in the domestic market due to falling inventory levels but prices for steel plate and steel plates for shipbuilding will fall by $31 per ton to $661 and $623, respectively

Screw Propeller Makes Russian Shipbuilding History
The screw propeller, which is the largest in Russian shipbuilding history, of the diameter of 26.9 ft. was manufactured at the defense shipyard Zvezdochka in the city of Severodvinsk, reports BarentsObserver. This is a prefabricated mover from stainless steel of the weight of about 50 tons made for Hyundai Heavy Industrial. It is intended for an arctic tanker under construction to be operated by the Russian company Primorje Sea Shipping Company. Source: FIS
Odfjell Orders Six Chem Tankers
Odfjell signed agreements with the Chuan Dong Shipyard to build a series of six plus four optional 9,000 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers for delivery in 2010-2012 at a total price of $180 million. These ships will operate in our regional trades in Asia and Europe, and will replace smaller vessels currently trading in these areas.
Displacement Transmitters Improved
OMEGA's new output displacement transmitters have improved IP67-rated sealing coupled with polymer guides with rigid carriers. These transmitters have a less than 0.2% linearity as well as rugged stainless steel body construction making them especially accurate and reliable in wet and corrosive conditions. Output options are either direct-acting 4 to 20 mA or reverse-acting 20 to 4mA. Recommended for industrial use and automotive testing applications.
Odfjell Buys New Vessel
Odfjell entered into a contract for the purchase of MT Holly Galaxy, a 19,975 dwt chemical tanker (IMO II/III) with 22 stainless steel cargo tanks, built in 2006 at Fukuoka Shipbuilding in Japan. The vessel will be delivered in December 2011 and shall be traded regionally in South America. Odfjell Announces Ship Sale and Delivery
As part of Odfjell's continued fleet renewal process, two older ships have been sold. The company also took delivery of the 33,707 fully stainless steel newbuilding M/T Bow Heron on long term time-charter. The parcel tanker M/T Bow Condor (27,950 dwt/built 1978) has been sold for demolition. The Bow Condor was built in and was the last vessel of the 13 ships in the B76 series to operate in our service.
