SUNY Maritime College Presents The Annual 2012 Groundhog Day Cutting Edge Issues in Shipping Symposium. When: February 2, 2012 – 8:30 am – 5:30 pm Where: Vander Clute Hall, Special Events Room / SUNY Maritime College, Throggs Neck, NY Admission: FREE The morning session will begin with a presentation at 9:00 am, by Alan Favicchio, Project Director at UTC on "US Ex-Im Bank Financed Project/Employing Maritime Graduates as PR-17 Compensatory Waivers." At 10:00 am, "Cuba Oil Drilling - U.S. Contingency Planning to respond to a pollution release impacting U.S Waters" will be the topic of a talk by Captain Francis (“Stash”) Pelkowski, USCG and Assistant Professor, Global Business & Transportation, SUNY Maritime College. James Maloney, Esq., SUNY Maritime graduate and maritime attorney will tackle the topic of "Controversial Issues of Marine Insurance,” at 10:45 am. Following lunch in the Special Events room, at 1:00 pm, Keynote Speaker and SUNY Maritime graduate Matt Doherty will focus on Chartering. Mr. Doherty is Chartering Manager at Genco Ship Management, LLC, New York City. He is responsible for all chartering activities for a fleet of sixty plus bulk carriers and also sailed onboard American flag merchant vessels as a licensed deck officer.

The SUNY Maritime College Department of Continuing Education has released its 2005 schedule for on-line Marine Surveying courses. This series of courses includes subjects such as hull and cargo surveying, container damage, hatch surveys, yacht surveying and a component on the Business of Surveying which includes subjects such as report writing and marine insurance.
