ACL Adds Eight Tank Barges

American Commercial Lines Expands Liquid Cargo Fleet With Purchase of Eight 20,000 Barrel Capacity Tank Barges.   American Commercial Lines (ACL) today announced the purchase of eight 20,000 barrel capacity tank barges from SeaRiver Maritime Inc., a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation. The purchase will expand ACL's fleet of 325 tank barges, which transport liquid cargoes, including chemicals, petroleum and renewable fuels throughout the U.S. inland waterway system. The company operates the nation's second largest tank barge fleet and the third largest dry cargo fleet.   "This expansion of our fleet enables us to meet shippers' needs for mid-range capacity tank barges and underscores ACL's long-term commitment to our liquids business," Dan Jaworski, ACL's Vice President Liquid Sales, commented. "As an added benefit, these tank barges were built by Jeffboat, adding quality, as well as capacity, to our liquids fleet." Bob Blocker, ACL's Senior Vice President Sales and Customer Service, added, "ACL is focused on strategic growth of our liquids business, and the addition of the 20,000 barrel capacity tank barges to our fleet provides the potential for entry into new markets."   ACL was acquired by Platinum Equity in December 2010 and has been working closely with Platinum's M&A team to identify and pursue growth opportunities


Bollinger and Martin Midstream Sign Contract for Tank Barge

Bollinger Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. company, has signed a contract for the design and new construction of a 55,000 barrel (BBL) Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90) compliant tank barge, with Martin Midstream Partners, LP. Contract terms and conditions were not disclosed. The announcement was made by Bollinger executive vice president of new construction, Chris Bollinger. Kirby Buys Hollywood Marine, TriggersDebt Fears

Kirby Corp, the largest U.S. tank barge operator, recently agreed to buy Hollywood Marine Inc., an inland tank barge company based in Houston, Texas, for about $325 million. While the company views Hollywood's operations as complementary to its core inland tank barge operations, some analysts were immediately skeptical of the effects on Kirby's bottom line. Tank Barge Grounds in James River

The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Press Release stating that a tank barge carrying approximately 1.26 million gallons of liquid asphalt grounded in the James River about five miles south of Richmond, Virginia. One tank has been damaged. The incident is under investigation.


Tank Barge Measure To Enter Force

The first phases of a USCG final rule implementing measures for maintaining or regaining control of a tank barge that will reduce the likelihood of a tank barge's grounding and spilling its cargo are effective June 19, 2000. These measures are necessary, according to USCG because without them a tug that loses its tow lacks ready means for regaining control of it. The rule is designed to increase the safety of marine transport and protect the environment.

The newly built tank barge, the Fight A.L.S., was delivered to Harley Marine Services on February 19, 2016.   Designed by Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) and constructed at Vigor Fab in Portland, Ore., the 83,000 bbl tank barge joins Harley’s offshore fleet working the Gulf and East Coast to transport clean petroleum products, specifically gasoline and distillates.   Fight A.L.S. is the third 83,000 bbl ATB tank barge recently designed by EBDG and built for Harley Marine


Kirby Buys Seacor’s Inland Tank Barge Fleet
