Zamakona Launches Tuna Freezer Vessel

Tuna freezer vessel Ljubica was launched at Zamakona Yards shipyard in Bilbao on June 16 for Ecuadoran shipowner Pesquera Miriam S.A. The ship has been designed and developed by the technical shipping office CINTRANAVAL - DEFCAR SL  and has a 1,999 m3 fish capacity in its tanks, 90 meters length and 18 knots speed. The Ljubica is designed for tuna fishing trough the fences system in fishing grounds located at the Pacific Ocean. Its delivery is planned for autumn 2014.

Spanish tuna vessel opts for fuel-efficient propulsion package. Based in Spain, the Pevasa Group recently ordered a complete propulsion system from MAN Diesel and Turbo for a new tuna vessel. The system is unique in that it comprises a package of three high-efficiency products, including a modern, medium-speed MAN 8L32/44CR engine with common-rail (CR) technology, a Renk RSVL-950 gear unit, and an innovative MAN Alpha VBS1100 CP propeller with Kappel propeller blade designs and rudder bulb


EU NAVFOR Destroys More Pirate Groups

On March 12, after receiving a report from MV E.R. Lubeck (Liberian Flag, German owner), that pirates in two skiffs had tried to hijack her, COMEUNAVFOR initiated a surge operation to intercept and disrupt the pirate action group (PAG). The EU NAVFOR Flagship ITS Etna tasked the EUNAVFOR Swedish and Luxemburg Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) and EUNAVFOR Warship HNLMS Tromp against the PAG consisting of one mother skiff and two skiffs.


Zamakona Delivers Tuna Vessel to Echebastar

The Echebaster Group received its new tuna-freezer vessel last Saturday from Zamakona Yards after its inauguration at the Maritime Cruise Station at Getxo, Port of Bilbao. The new tuna vessel has a length of almost 90 meters and a capacity of 1,900 m3 of fish in its 20 freezers with accommodation for 42 crew aboard and a top speed of 18.2 knots. Zamakona Delivers Second Vessel to Jadran

On October 18, Zamakona Yards celebrated in Getxo, Bizkaia the delivery of tuna freezer vessel Ljubica to the owner group Jadran based in Ecuador and Panamá. The event was attended by more than 200 people, including authorities and guests, acting as Godmother seven-year-old Matea Peric. The ceremony also attended Jardan Group president, Diego Miletic, as well as Zamakona Yards Group president, Pedro Garaygordobil.


NOAA Fisheries Seize 80 Tons of Albacore

NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries) Office for Law Enforcement (OLE) special agents have seized 80 short tons of albacore tuna, worth over $141,000 , from a Cambodian-flagged longline fishing vessel, the Long Man Yun #66 in Pago Pago, American Samoa, for allegedly violating U.S. fishing laws. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is an agency of the Commerce Department.

On November 3, 2007 over 400 invited guests visited the fishing port at Itajai-Santa Catarina in the South of Brazil to celebrate the new tuna boat F/V Alalunga VII. EU to Ban Fish from Sri Lanka, Saying Lax on Illegal Fishing

The European Commission proposed a ban on imports of fish from Sri Lanka for not tackling illegal fishing properly and lifted a ban on fish imports from Belize following the reform of its vessel inspection practices. The Commission on Tuesday also lifted warnings on Fiji, Panama, Togo and Vanuatu, saying they had implemented concrete measures to combat illegal fishing. The Coast Guard rescued three fishermen from a liferaft 8 miles west of Cape Blanco at 1:15 p.m., Sunday. The three fishermen, reportedly uninjured, are aboard a Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Lifeboat en route to Station Coos Bay, located in Charleston
