Hyundai Heavy Wins LNG Orders

South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries won $340-million orders to build two LNG carriers for Golar LNG of Norway. One of the ships would be delivered by December 2003 and the other by July 2004, said a spokesman for the world's largest shipbuilder. With the new contracts, LNG orders for Hyundai Heavy have risen to six ships this year, worth about $1.02 billion, he said.


Teekay LNG Acquires Interests in Four LNG Newbuildings

Teekay LNG Partners L.P. announced that it has acquired from BG Group ownership interests in four 174,000 cubic meter Tri-Fuel Diesel Electric (TFDE) liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier newbuildings, which will be constructed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. in China. The vessels, which are scheduled to deliver between September 2017 and January 2019, will each operate under 20-year time-charter contracts, plus extension options, with Methane Services Limited


LNG Projects Clear FERC Review

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) staff recently said two proposed liquefied natural gas import terminals on the Mississippi coast would not significantly harm the environment, clearing a major hurdle for the projects to win final approval from the agency. The proposed LNG Clean Energy Project that would be located in the Port of Pascagoula would be able to send out up to 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas a day.


Petronet LNG to Float Subsidiary

Natural gas importer Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL) plans to float a shipping subsidiary overseas to haul gas to its greenfield re-gassification terminal of 2.5 million tonnes per annum capacity proposed at Kochi in Kerala. The diversification plan has been unveiled in the tender conditions stipulated by Petronet for selecting ship owners and operators for transporting LNG to the Kochi terminal. This is a departure from the first two shipping tenders finalized by Petronet for hauling gas from RasGas


Joint Venture Advances Canadian LNG Market

Ferus Natural Gas Fuels and ENN Canada Corporation announced a Joint Venture to construct, own and operate two LNG liquefaction plants in Canada. The plants will be strategically located in Vancouver, British Columbia and Edmonton, Alberta to service the on-road trucking market as well as other high-horsepower applications including marine, rail, mining and oil and gas exploration. “The benefits of fueling with natural gas are significant”, said Henry Cai, CEO of ENN Canada

Teekay Order Two More 173,400 cu.m LNG Carriers

Teekay LNG Partners L.P. has exercised two of its three existing options with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., (DSME) of South Korea for the construction of two 173,400 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier newbuildings for delivery in 2016. These two newbuilding LNG carriers are in addition to the two LNG carriers Teekay LNG ordered from DSME in December 2012, which have since secured time-charter employment commencing upon delivery.

Shell Orders Two LNG Tankers

The gas and power division of Royal Dutch/Shell ordered two additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to support its growing global LNG business. Shell International Gas Limited ordered a membrane-type carrier from South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and a moss spherical tank carrier from Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Shell did not disclose the price for the orders, but industry sources said the market level for a typical LNG carrier was around $175 million.
