Hyundai Heavy Wins LNG Orders

South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries won $340-million orders to build two LNG carriers for Golar LNG of Norway. One of the ships would be delivered by December 2003 and the other by July 2004, said a spokesman for the world's largest shipbuilder. With the new contracts, LNG orders for Hyundai Heavy have risen to six ships this year, worth about $1.02 billion, he said.

LNG Projects Clear FERC Review

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) staff recently said two proposed liquefied natural gas import terminals on the Mississippi coast would not significantly harm the environment, clearing a major hurdle for the projects to win final approval from the agency. The proposed LNG Clean Energy Project that would be located in the Port of Pascagoula would be able to send out up to 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas a day.

Petronet LNG to Float Subsidiary

Natural gas importer Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL) plans to float a shipping subsidiary overseas to haul gas to its greenfield re-gassification terminal of 2.5 million tonnes per annum capacity proposed at Kochi in Kerala. The diversification plan has been unveiled in the tender conditions stipulated by Petronet for selecting ship owners and operators for transporting LNG to the Kochi terminal. Shell Orders Two LNG Tankers

The gas and power division of Royal Dutch/Shell ordered two additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to support its growing global LNG business. Shell International Gas Limited ordered a membrane-type carrier from South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and a moss spherical tank carrier from Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Shell did not disclose the price for the orders, but industry sources said the market level for a typical LNG carrier was around $175 million.

Sempra's New LNG Terminal Operational

Sempra LNG, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), announced that its Cameron LNG liquefied natural gas (LNG) receipt terminal near Lake Charles, La., has successfully completed performance testing and has begun commercial operations. China Struggles to Find LNG for Terminal Projects

China will have a hard time acquiring enough LNG to feed its planned LNG terminals, according to a China Daily report. So far, Chinese companies have proposed building 16 LNG receiving terminals, with as many as 10 of these originally planned to be operational by 2010. However, so far, only two terminals, the most advanced in construction terms, have secured long-term gas supplies, according to the report. These are Guangdong’s Dapeng LNG and Fujian projects

BP to buy Nigerian LNG

Oil major BP Plc has agreed to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the new Brass project in Nigeria to help meet growing demand in the U.K. and the U.S. The deal, to be finalized later this year, is for annual shipment of two million tons of LNG for 20 years starting in 2010. The Nigerian gas will be delivered by Brass LNG and used by BP, one of the world's largest suppliers of LNG, to supply multiple markets in the Atlantic basin

Oregon LNG Completes Navigation, Docking Simulation

Oregon LNG completed a navigation and docking simulation for three liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker sizes at the Pacific Marine Institute in Seattle, Wash. The company says the simulation demonstrates that its proposed LNG site on the Skipanon Peninsula in Warrenton, Ore., can accommodate the 148,000 cubic meter (5.2 MMcf), 216,000 cubic meter (7.6 MMcf), or Q-Flex tanker, and the 266,000 cubic meter (9.4 MMcf) Q-Max tankers.
